Dang, yeah I guess they updated it to 180 days this past November. That is way too many days in my opinion. I had my fair share of dumb scammers abusing the system already with 45 days.

I think he was asking how long before you can file a claim, not how long do you have to file a claim.

as I stated above, I believe paypal requires you to wait 7 days.. they want the seller to have a chance to ship and have it delivered.

ground shipping is 4 days, so paypal requires 7 days before you can file. but it all depends on the transaction.

I know ebay transactions are 7 days, pretty sure any site that takes paypal is also 7 days, but a volunteer transfer of funds without an invoice created by paypal could be different.

NOPE! I always send signature required. You can't file a claim and get your money back if you signed for the package. The protection works both ways, there are Scammer sellers and buyers trying to get over. It's all about Character.... I've used PayPal to spend tens of thousands of dollars. I never had to file a claim, things come up, people get busy in life, shipping a headlight could get put on the back burner, doesn't make the guy a crook.

paypal protects the seller much more than the buyer..


The seller has only to prove they shipped the item, which only requires a tracking number sent to the zip code of the buyer.. If they can provide that information the buyer is basically screwed if all they send was an empty box.

I've been on both sides of claims from paypal, As a seller someone trying to do as you stated, received the item and then claim they never got it and try to get their money back while keeping the item.

As a seller I ALWAYS ship thru the paypal system, then the tracking information is linked to the transaction and the receipt of the package can be verified by paypal.


From a buyer stand point I have purchased things that have not been delivered or not delivered as described, and paypal will drag ass helping the buyer (because refunding the buyer means paypal loses it's fees) and they make the buyer jump thru hoops to prove whatever their issue is..

I always use the pay later option.

PayPal draws the funds out of your account 14 days after the transaction. This way, if you file a claim it's paypals money in the mix, not yours.

Its a buyers market, They always stick up for the buyer.

Try selling on ebay for a short time and see how many crooks are out there, they initiate false claims all the time (say somethings broken, then they send you back empty boxes) paypal automatically refunds them once they tracking shows delivered.. You end up loseing merchandise and money all the time. Its very shady system.

Ya I paid $170 for a FaceBook page which was dumb of me lol but I used PayPal. Then the page wasn't as described (couldn't change name) so I filed claim and they gave me money back. The seller never commented on the case through PayPal anyways. But I could have just kept the page instead of giving it back after I was refunded.

bull.. the seller is not always better protected... DO not trust paypal.


Ive had buyers keep items,even a car..

and still got refunded..those that do it, know how to beat the system....
