Very good point. I definitely want to find out if it has been tuned. I know it has a Roto-Fab intake.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but a few people are talking specifically about the "650hp" peak hp number or not being able to row out the gears at redline.
The ZL1 is extremely fun to drive, even at low RPM and when short shifting. I cannot understate this enough. Having boost down low in a v8 will put a smile on your face every time. The LT1 is no slouch either of course, but the upgrade to an LT4 is not just a "peak hp" upgrade. I came from a 5th gen 2SS 1LE (LS3), and the powerband personalities of the car are dramatically different. I haven't driven a 6th gen SS, so it's not the exact same comparison, but I don't think you would regret making the upgrade. If your only joy when driving is to hit redline multiple gears in a row, then maybe look elsewhere. My counter-point to that would be that I don't NEED to rev out the entire gear to gain access to the fun power.

455+ hp is already enough to put you over the limit in pretty much any gear. Is it worth the price? Yes, just look at its specs and what its competitors are for the price. Is it worth it for YOU? That's a question only you can answer. For me where I live, ZL1 is overkill. Normal driving I rarely get to hit rev limiter and if so its in 1st rarely 2nd, just too much traffic. Lots of low end torque makes it so I don't have to rev this out to enjoy it, but it does sound amazing.

ZPirate, do what’s best for you but I really don’t think you will regret getting a ZL1. I know I don’t regret it one bit. My insurance was cheaper or about the same when I had my 2SS and the extra 200 hp is not an issue for me anyway. I really enjoy having the extra hp and a ZL1 but that’s just me.

I don't mind being the contrarian to most of the posts here. I'd argue the chassis is perfect with the LT1 powering it. Great balance of power and handling. Plenty of power for the street, and still enough for road-course tracks (with better balance than the ZL1).
I think a lot of people buy for the capability and never really use it. That's never made sense to me. If you own a ZL1 and only ever use part throttle or never go WOT for more than a few seconds, you might as well drive the SS. |

Well, to get all the options as on my 23 2SS/1LE, the 18K difference for 200HP was a big factor. Also, the Guzzler tax of $2,300 built into the price was a turn off. My SS gets 21mpg. The super charges are a Guzzler also. My 2 cents. I love carbon!

The Sharky GGT was $1300. The really funny thing is it states on the window sticker "TOTAL OPTIONS $1795" - $495 NAV + $1300 GGT. It is funny, I feel like I did not option that, I was thrown into option that.

I will leave this thread with...
You can dig up all my post clearly stating that 500HP (MAX) for street use is all you need. You can find it in the GTO, here in SS, Mustang, Challenger - forums, I said it, I admit it. But it is totally worth it for a ZL1 - absolutely, for me! Make your own choices and be happy with them!

Practically Is a ZL1 Worth 20k More Than a SS 1LE ?
subjective. but i'll give my opinion. no but yes. i had a lightly modded 18 ss 1LE that was arguably faster than a stock m6 ZL1. if i had it to do over again, id opt for a ZL1 from the get go. not for the perceived difference in power, strictly for resale. ZL1 all day especially if you are not the type to mod cars and are worried about a warranty.

I would get in trouble with 650hp. I do fast WOT burst to 80 or more in my heavy traffic whenever i have a clear area. 650 and i would be over a 100mph way too fast.
