Okay, one more thing in addition to what I and others said above: test drive a stock ZL1 and see for yourself how it drives, how it makes you feel, whether it's worth the $20K+ bath you'll take if you trade or sell your 2SS.

I bought a new M6 ZLE on Monday, and was only able to take it for a short test drive. I haven't picked it up yet. But my first thoughts were basically 3 things-
1) It's going to be hard to get the satisfaction of winding out multiple gears on public roads, depending on your area. They are long and it gets up to speed quickly. However, 2) Low and Mid range power is through the ****ing roof compared to a SS, and even short shifting was WAY more satisfying than my SS. It's not all about top end and total hp figures. 3) This is specific to the ZLE - but the suspension was not nearly as rough as some people make it out to be.

[QUOTE=Chevelle vs Camaro;11320553]When’s the last time you had a warranty issue with a car? Most worry about them but never used them.
Pro charge it and if anything did happen to go wrong you’ll have plenty money left to fix. Also although I love a ZL1 I would rather customize yours the way you want than have a cookie cutter ZL1. Spend the extra money to make your 2ss unique. It looks good by the way… Just my personal opinion. The cost difference between the 2SS and ZL1 was the deciding factor for me, as I could build a faster 2SS that an stock ZL1 for the $20-30k difference. Whatever you decide, make the car unique and your own

I was in the same boat recently. I purchased a new 2022 2SS 1LE thinking it would satisfy my need for speed, but it let me down in that department. I've had quite a few fast cars (most recently a hellcat charger) and missed having a fast sports car. When I got it, it just didn't seem to have the pep I expected and it was confirmed when I took it to the drag strip and couldn't even hit 110 mph.. yikes, not that much quicker than the fbody's of the early 2000s... thought they had come a lot further in all these years.
Anyways, immediately traded to a c7 z06 and it hauls a$$ like i'd expect it to, but i'm not sure i'm a vette guy and think I would have ultimately been happier either modding the 2SS (was so new i didn't want to rip it up) or just getting what I wanted originally, which was the zl1. Still might find me a zl1 one of these days and call it a day. Good luck. |

I would say it depends on your end goals with the car. Are you looking for the stock power of the ZL1? If so throw a maggy or whipple on the 2SS to get that low to mid range power and be slightly faster. If you want to go further than the stock power of the ZL1 then spring for it and you have the forged internals to work with.
Myself wanted to build my car to my liking so its exactly how I want it. Just wanted something I could put my own stamp on with good power. I'm slightly over 10k on mines and from the horror stories about dealer warranty work I'll take my chances with a trust worthy shop. Atleast they will take pride in the work and not be a warranty push out the door.

I test drove an SS. It wasn't enough.
Then I test drove a ZL1. It was enough. |

Then I upgraded it to 735 rwhp and that's what I finally found enough. The point is, this is all subjective and depends on OP's preferences, the importance he attributes to owning the top trim, and last but not least, his thirst (hunger?) for power.

I did the same thing. '21 LT1 to a '22 ZLE. I've had it for a year and 4 months now and at 30k miles, no issues. Lots of cosmetic modifications but before the end of the year I plan on doing a flex fuel tune and headers. To the OP, I felt it was worth it. It is a nice upgrade and I plan to keep the car until it won't drive anymore. |
