Probably. How hot do the tips get, I wonder? You could probably make a tip with stand offs to hold the LEDs to minimize heating, maybe. Done right, this would be a head turner... (not on all the time, ramps up and down like it was hot metal heating up / cooling off).

I actually like how nissan does this on new maximas when you get out the car, its more of an exit lighting that is barely noticeable but a nice feature.

Agreed. It would ridiculous and lose it's effect if it kicked when hopping from light to light - or when acceleration levels trigger the 1st to 4th shift. On ramps and highway acceleration I think would be perfect though.

I just want red underglow on the sides when I unlock or open the doors. That's it. I can't find anything anywhere for just that.

Try this technique using underglow light bars instead of puddle lights: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=533625

You can put a diffuser over any light to change the color, heck you can use colored seran wrap, lol, xmas is perfect time to find red or green. I think underglow can look awesome if done right. I did my street bike, spent over 100 hours on it and not 1 person has said it looks bad, even won a few awards. If it's done right, it can look amazing. Try to get the chaser/sequential ones though, little more expensive but worth it. I used to make custom led strips all the time, it's really easy to just buy a roll, cut to your length add wires and connect a bunch together. Guess I'm going against the grain here hah, but if the car isn't all stickered and riced out, underglow can add value to the car imho. If you need any help or questions hmu. I haven't done my car yet, but have done a few other projects.

Just go to amazon and search for "red rock lights"

They have 4 pods for under $20, 2 per side should give a nice red glow

My wife's car has it. It came factory on her car. I've always liked it. Goes off as soon as you get in and close the door.

The light pods you get from Amazon will have a wider coverage area then OEM puddle lights

Mounted under the car they should give you the nice red light glow
you want
