I did read the entire article and several others that provide basically the same information.
I purposefully did not attempt to add any opinion on causation and just presented the entire article that includes facts on which states receive more federal dollars than they receive. The ranking is solely based on tax dollars contributed vs. tax dollars received and nothing else Although it seems logical that states that are populated with poorer & less educated people would be dependent on more affluent states |

Maybe, but I don’t think anyone would be forced to eat insects. Just saying.

I just saw the same headline. Looks like you're going to be hot in some parts of California for a while and not charging your car when you get off work, if you love the environment. Personally I like to keep my thermostat on 73 or 74. 78 is a bit too hot for me.
Don't expect that 'minor glitch' to make a difference. It's a feature, not a bug. |

"The top three conservation actions are to set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using large appliances and charging electric vehicles, and turn off unnecessary lights."
Excessive heat starting tomorrow will stress energy grid. Consumer conservation likely needed this weekend to avert power outages

The EV charging is a relatively new wrinkle in the conservation formula.
The whole system is weak and near broken. It's good to not be wasteful, but that is all voluntary. No matter what, you can pay up and never conserve, until they shut off the grid in your area. Highest electricity costs are between 4 and 9 pm. These are the hours they request the most voluntary reductions in usage, including EVs. We have gotten well used to this routine and billing system anyhow. In defense of EV charging, I believe they included it only because it is one of the usages that consumers can voluntarily control what times of day they charge. It's not ideal. I think we should be looking at providing cheap affordable energy around the clock, rather than continually managing shortages and outages of electricity. We've had heat spells before, transformers blow up (especially when they can't cool down enough at night). No matter, either way if not enough volunteer to conserve, they will throw the switch...lol I enjoy criticizing EVs as much as the next guy, but all they need to do (for now) is charge up at a more grid-friendly time. |

For instance, my moms Y is set to charge at 11 PM and mine is scheduled to charge at 3:30 am. This should be an easy sell for people because it has a money saving aspect to it. So they will want to charge when it is the cheapest. |

The list continues to grow...
All you need to do is buy a new EV under warranty to observe a lower TCO All you need to do is install a charger in your home All you need to do is charge up at a more grid-friendly time All you need to do is plan trips around charging stations All you need to do is drop your trailer before using a charging station All you need to do is educate yourself on all you need to do All you need to do is obey and consume

I read that CA will allow so many Volt-style plug in sales. Might work ok for single vehicle people.
I could respect a Cali fella with an I-Miev in the toolbox and a good generator, and otherwise keeps the cars they want. Last edited by genxer; 08-31-2022 at 11:48 AM. |

I would also look at the subtle creep of "Well, you don't really need to tow that much or that often, or at all"..."You really don't need that much range anyhow"...etc..."You can probably just use public transportation or share ownership to do what you need..." Once the options of freedom of travel and types of transportation are restricted or removed under the rationale of "you don't really need to do that anyway", we will miss the good old days for sure... |

I skimmed a puff piece article about a kid getting a college grant for testing a reluctance motor idea or ideas. Then I saw this search link: https://www.electricmotorengineering...tric-vehicles/
I don't think that style motor would ever be choice for performance, it would fit the appliance mold as a cost reducer. The torque vs rpm, w/efficiency graph was the interesting part for me, as a general way to see electric motors. Since Raptor made a post about the Tesla 3's strong passing power form 30-60... They would need more gears to pull hard above that. The best motor effieciency would expect to show at highway speed, if it's not 'oversized' for power, but in the low gear. |
