High temp coatings make a HUGE difference, but I agree at this point you've already installed them, I wouldn't pull them just to have them coated again, best thing for you to do is what you've already done, just work around it. My headers are Jet Hot 2500f coated and they stay cool enough that you can touch them with your hand even at full operating temp. I wouldn't leave my hand on them but it makes a massive difference in temps.

Ceramic coating makes a huge difference. Greatly lower temps under hood. And I’ve never heard of coated headers melting wiring. You can touch the headers without burning your hands within a few minutes of shutting off the engine.

*ZOH6 beat me to it. I concur with what he said.

Thanks. I've done motorcycle headers with ceramic coating and it also made a huge difference.

That's amazing that you can touch them. Did you get the Kooks headers with the coating or did you go with something else and have them coated afterwards?

Carry the hell on!
A good reminder! I recently had to replace a starter motor (close to the passenger-side collector / header) on an older, modified LS7 due to heat soak, and where she was repeatedly reluctant to crank after driving awhile. A known problem with headers. I also added heat shielding around the starter motor and some exposed wiring and connectors. Connectors had started to discolor because of the heat.

Yes, I got my Kooks 2" headers coated by Jet Hot. I believe if you order them direct from Kooks, they only offer the 1300 coating, I ordered mine through Vengeance Racing and they arranged the 2500 coating. Any coating is better than none though, even 1300 should make a noticeable difference.

Complete beginner in the middle
of an install– How do you reroute them? Do i just pull on the cables?

I also have some spare heat shroud. What if I zip tie it away from the headers on top of the OEM heat shroud and then wrap my aftermarket shroud around it to protect the zip tie and wires just in case?

I looked for threads but I can't find any instructions.

Note that the bottom harness is zip tied to the car in 3 places. Leans a little closer than I would prefer, but It shouldn't move even closer from there.

You think this will be OK?

Seems fairly wrapped up to me. I'm not sure you even need all the zip ties on the heater hoses- it's already got factory wrap on it plus the DEI you added. The problem is usually the lower wiring harness. If you wrapped and zipped it, it should be fine.

I put my harness behind the coolant tank. my headers are coated but figured the extra insurance wouldn't hurt.

Cool Move the harness!!!

Here is what you do... remove the harness from the chassis at its location and using the super-awesome big cheapo zipties from Harbor Freight, secure that sheeeeee it to the battery cable and inside the coolant bottle to keep it away from the heat of the headers!

My headers just came back from the heat shielding guy. Turned out beautifully.

Thank you very much. I wrapped and zipped the lower harness, but it is still too close for comfort. I am going to follow the below commenter (explanation of how to reroute lower wiring harness behind coolant tank) if I can although it sucks to remove my handiwork.

I am anxious of lighting stuff on fire and feel better when I take the time to do everything I can to prevent issues, so I will take the time to remove the coolant tank again and reroute the bottom wire. To Home Depot for more high temp zip ties!
