Hurst - Short Shifter for LT TR3160 6-speed Manual Transmission

Just a friendly heads up, I know there's not a lot of manual guys on here, but our prayers have finally been answered. Hurst just came out with an LT TR3160 specific short shifter. (I've been waiting 3 years for this). I'm ordering this today and am going to have it installed by a transmission shop. Full review to follow...

Wow- All that work and its just for the stick. That must mean the throw distance is in the leverage end and not so much in the shift housing like the other setup I saw, it was with the whole bracket. I was like dang, no easy way around this one. The mother of all bolt-ons.

let us know how it works out and how long an how much please.

Hurst didnt just come out with this... it has been out for a while. I have one in mine, tho I used both the LT and SS model to get the ball attachment and threw a raceseng knob on it. I've had mine in for a year now and others have had this pistol grip for longer.

..and btw.. you dont have to do all the steps in the installation. You dont need to lower the transmission or pull the the linkage out. Just unpin it from the bottom of the shifter assembly and the 2 bolts that release the assembly. Then you can lower it out. They tell you to pull the whole linkage but on LTs it is not necessary.

I knew they always had the SS version. I didn't know they had the LT available until recently (my bad).

Yeah, I can't stand that pistol grip. Is there anyway to just put a ball on it from Hurst? Or do you have to piece it together? Can you please go into more detail on what exactly you did to yours?

Also, can you please go into more detail about the "easier" way you installed it?

I already bitched out Hurst for not making a kit for the LT with the ball. They even went and made a stock option for the SS also. But they dont sell enough LTs to make the other options available. My reply was because ya'll didnt make one to sell and everyone isnt going to chime in about it.

If you look at the kits.. it is the black piece that slides over the shifter assembly that has threads for the Hurst ball. Why they wont add that to the LT is still beyond me.. they have the parts.

Any 3rd party knob gives options for thread adapters and you just have to match it. I think I have a thread around in the transmission section about it a while back.

I'll get the directions out and cross out the steps not necessary and get back to you on that. I did this install on wheel ramps and jack stands. Not hard at all. Remove the exhaust and drive shaft and it's easy access. The silver trim piece, you can grab and pull.. pops right off. 4 or 5 hr job at the most with setup and clean up

P.s. I know it cost more up front, but on a sale day (fathers day) get an SS shifter and pull the knob and threaded part from it. Then you can resell the SS shifter as a pistol or stock option grip only. A few people still like them.

Looked up my stats.. I didn't do a write up on the forums, I did it on facebook. I'll try to put some time aside to make a thread for the LT guys

not the first time for a grossly over thought out procedure. My f150 drop shackles would have had me drop the fuel tank. I ripped off those pages and gave the rest of the instruction to the shop. Wouldn't have gone that far except I wanted to ensure they put the pivot wedges in correctly. Same for BMW rear control arm bushings. Just drop the arm and get a presser. Most of it is just common sense. The industry can play in to novice fears of oops what if I touch that. Dont' know why though. They would sell more if it is user friendly.

edit: and drop the exhaust now that I am thinking about it..

Couldn't find the old one. I tried to get some shifts in today but not much room to stretch it out. I wasn't fully wide open and shifted early but you should get the point. Wide open you will be flowing thru the gears. I have a clutch master kit I'm anxiously waiting to install as well.

You can skip steps 22-29 on the installation.
