I guess lots of people making mistakes thinking “I’m getting the most expensive Camaro”. I just laugh because they’re gonna hate their car in under 40 temperatures or anytime it rains. In fact it was almost freezing yesterday where I live and my regular ZL1 almost ate a wall. Spring summer car with the tires it comes with.

The Camaro won’t stall unless you are horrible with a clutch. But you won’t be letting off the clutch without the gas pedal unless you are on a decline. It will start lugging with too little throttle even on flat surfaces. But it doesn’t bother me because I’m good with the clutch and I don’t drag race.
At what point (temperature) do regular ZL1 tires become ineffective? I live in SE Texas so for probably 355+ days of the year, the temperatures are above freezing. Even in January and February, most days we see high temperatures in the 50s or 60s - today it was 71.

If you arent buying the car with the specific intent of it being a track car then do yourself a favor and get a regular ZL1. You will be much happier.

I joined this website to offer my honest opinion on all matters good and bad so take my viewpoint and opinion with a grain of salt .... Buy the normal ZL1 because in my opinion the ZL1 1LE is way overrated. But I'm the minority here and most everyone hates me because I'm not of the popular sheeple opinion. This new ZL1 1LE is a great track car like my Z/28 but sucks as a daily driver. Nor do I ever see it being a collectible.

Today's roads and highways are getting worse and worse. Law Enforcement Cameras tracking you pretty much all time. I love 650 horsepower just like the next dude but can we use all this power on the civilian roads? No. Not a chance. Speed kills. Don't forget it.

Remember also that racing and tracking gets crazy expensive as time goes on.

The idea of budgeting should always be on your mind.

Money is money afterall.

If I had it to do over again, I'd buy a brand new 2018 Camaro SS 1LE automatic and mod it tastefully to around 500 horsepower.

Nuff said.

I think they just warn about driving in below 40 degrees F

I don't see what the big deal is with driving on cold dry roads. I don't drive any of my "toys" on wet or salt covered roads. But I currently own a 2015 Z06 Z07 pkg car and in the fall I have had it out on dry roads with the temps in the mid 30s with the nannies off and it has 100 rwhp more now than stock. I have no issues with those conditions in fact its fun. I run my Z06 in Sport all the time. While I have never driven a ZL1 1LE I ordered one anyway. I had a 2013 zl1 and it rode nice but it feels like a boat compared to my Z06. I wanted something that handles as good or better than my Z06 and I almost ordered a ZR1 but the fact that corvette has not done anything for the over heat issue, the ZR1 is the same hp as I have now with a hood and nose change, and the fact that I would have had to trade my Z06 and still give 65k led me to the ZL1 1LE. I may only track it once or twice a year but as long as it just rides stiff and is not a rattle trap I'm sure I will love it..only time will tell. I don't go out and drive like a maniac but in the deep woods of NH when there are no other cars around I love pounding corners but see no need to drive fast down a straight. To say the 1LE is overrated...I can't weight in on that yet but since it handles better than the standard Zl1 its the right choice for me as its not a daily driver and will probably only get 2000 miles a year at most all spirited drives on track or back roads no highway runs.

Understand that this is entirely subjective and the only way to truly know is to drive one yourself. I bought mine with the intent to be a track car to suppalement my Spec Miata when I didn’t want to deal with a trailer and wanted to go faster. I’m a relatively young dude who is used to driving modded cars around, and I’ll tell you, I would never DD the 1LE. I’ve taken it on a few back roads and mountain passes and frankly it sucks there too. If the road has any sort of undulations or bumpiness it complete upsets the car and makes the experience pretty dismal. My old DD GTI was more fun on the backroads. Now if this is going to be your track car you will love it to death. It’s a whole other level compared to my old SS 1Le.

Well I’m not old but not a young kid anymore (42) lol. I daily drive a 2017 2500hd duramax that bounces all over the place when it hits a bump in the road and it doesn’t bother me. Even my daily driver only gets about 6000 Miles a year. We use the wife’s X5 msport diesel to go long distance and I drive that in sport+ mode which makes it rwd only and shuts the traction control off. I used to own a 2000 camaro ss that I put hypercoil springs and Koni double adjustable shocks on. I also had spherical bearing control arms and torque arm as I tracked it and the only thing that bothered me was the rattling noise when you hit a bump not the stiffness. I haven’t driven a ZL1 1LE yet but have watched almost every video on YouTube and to me it doesn’t look bad at all or sound bad. I have the Z06 for a casual cruise anyway the ZL1 1LE will be the all business car

I receieved my Canadian 2018 ZL1 in end of October, I was not lucky enough to get the 1LE. However Glad I didnt get it. I will be tracking the car but only 3-4 times a summer.

From what ive read, If i drove on Quebec roads I would stay away from the 1LE. It is a bad ass car tho! Because it is a track car, i would get the PDR with it for resale value

Thank you again for all the answers.

I do drive on Quebec roads and they aren’t good. But I live on the countryside and the roads are ok. The highways too. I won’t go in Montreal with that car, it will get destroyed by the road. Even the ZL1.

Can’t wait for the winter to end! I love my Mustang, but I know I will love the ZL1 way more!

Koldunic, I just ordered a Tony Mamo TB to rid the car of that issue of pulling out in 1st gear. From the feedback I've read, this is quite the upgrade over the stock unported TB.

Tony

No, you keep the stock TB, Tony will send you a ported "GM" TB. Its
identical to the factory TB on the outside, inside not so much.
If I need to go back to a dealer, I can always reinstall the stock TB.
