Oil Filler Tube Removal??

I decided to order GM part 12609623 to make my oil change a little easier and the plan back fired. This morning I started the oil change and when I screwed the filler tube on, it locked in place I saw in another thread that someone else had this problem but didnt quite explain how they got it unlocked and removed. Anyone else had this problem and maybe have a video on how to remove it? Here is a picture and the link to the oil filler tube.

You may have to go brute force counterclockwise to get lock tab to give. I was afraid of doing that with mine after hearing that it locks, so I shaved off the back square edge of the locking tab with a razor blade to prevent that from accidentally happening. If it’s possible to remove your valve cover, you may be able to get a pick in there to press down on tab.

shine a flashlight into the opening and wiggle/stick a pick behind the tab, pry the tab inward and turn 12609623 CCW to remove.
It's a bit of a bother, but can be done good luck

I will try to remove it with brute force before I remove the valve cover. After I do finally get it removed I will be shaving off that tab too lol

Great idea that should work. the tab will be on the bottom and the gap you are looking for should be exactly 6 o’clock

Was able to get it removed. Thanks for the help, I ended up using a dentist tooth pick to grab onto the plastic tab and turn at the same time. I'm cutting off that tab right now with a dremel.

Cool

There is a locking TAB on the original oil filler on the valve cover. The two parts are completely different from the mount to the cap. You can grab the base with a set of ChannelLocks and a rag, moving it with slight authority until the actual locking detent releases the mount.

I bought a much longer one from O'reilly Auto for $33 and have not mounted it on my car as I have been working on "Frosty" lately. I raised it up so I can add this -10AN oil filler cap to pull a second vapor attachment for the Air-Oil-separator and help keep oil from filling the catch cans as most of the tracks have very long right-hand sweeping turns.

See the links. There is a tab you can get to come loose then the CAP will fit perfectly aligned.

Watch this YouTube Short to do it right!

Thanks! That gives me a much better idea on how to release the tab. I'll work on getting it out tomorrow. Kinda p.o.'d right now.

Sure beats standing my car on the nose so I can fill it back up with oil.

I can't find any of that luck. Looks like it's a critical tool needed for this.
