Whooshie whooshie sounds from my Turbo!

Guys. I did some messing around with the car today.

To be clear. And not that I know exactly how and if GM has their waste gate and blow off valve (recirculation solenoid) tied together or not.

But essentially when you let off the throttle the turbo boost needs to be released somewhere. It looks as GM has it being bled off through the intake tubing and filter.

Some ford performance companies make a diverter spacer that goes between solenoid and the turbo piping. So that you'll actually hear that lovely turbo sound. When the diverter opens. It just let's the extra built up pressure out to the atmosphere directly and not up through the air filter.

From what I've seen online. A lot of guys in the Cadillac ats world have knocked the idea of hearing the turbo...

I've been in the high horsepower (this camaro has 1/3rd of the HP I'm used to) game and not one single high performance car guy I know dislikes hearing a Turbo BOV. same goes for supercharger whine. Cam idles...we love it.

Anyhow here is what my camaro sounds like with the turbo boost being released to atmosphere and not through our intake filter.

Interesting. Where did you get this spacer and did it throw any CEL's?

I do love BOV noise and your video sounds cool! I need to investigate where this recirculation is actually going, to find out if it is metered air or not. If the tune is not counting any of the recirc air as metered, then straight to atmosphere should be a great mod!

I just pulled the intake tube off to make it sound like this. Temporarily of course. I just wanted to have a better look at the diverter solenoid. To see if a spacer can be installed.

It's not really ricer. My forged 6.0L 76mm Turbo truck Sierra had a BOV on it and it sounded great.

Look up high horsepower turbo vettes. You'll hear the same thing

Sorry but I have yet to figure out what this obsession is with sounds from BOV's, turbo spooling etc. For me if it doesn't make HP, corners better, better ride for-geta-bout-it.

It's all good. I got the infotainment package for better audio sound and a bigger screen. Didn't make me faster but it sounded better. Also got sunroof for nice days. Didn't do anything to improve the performance though.

If it was all about speed and performance we'd be driving stripped down cars with huge motors and huge turbos.

I'm 100% positive I'll have lots of handling and performance upgrades on this car as well.

The recirculation/ diverter stock quietness is just that. A stock factory thing. Anyone who puts a turbo or centrifugal blower on their vehicle will have a type of bov and it'll likely be much louder than a stock system.

I've heard BMW with a nice aftermaket BOV and the sounds are amazing.

Like this cam and exhaust?

This is my last truck...

https://youtu.be/6s8nCz9NwTM

And the truck before that. This one dyno'd 425 RWHP 550 ft lbs at 6 psi of boost.

I don't think we'll be getting any nasty idles and throaty exhaust sounds out of our 2L Turbos lol.

I'm 31 by the way!

For anyone who is interested in hearing their turbo a little more... I contacted the company that makes some diverter spacers and bov kits for the ecoboost and they are testing some prototypes on the camaro already. So we'll see what they come up with.

Definitely post when you have some news. Your video on YouTu.be sounded awesome!

I switched to Chevy this June (finally started making this thing in US) from BMW. My 2014 428i convertible had an awesome BOV sound that I was hoping to get on the 2.0T but no luck.

Ignore the hate... turbo emphysema is kick-a$$!
