black hood insert, holy scratches easy!

Just wondering if you guys are seeing the same thing. The lightest touch and mine scratches. Normal!?

Is the carbon insert available separately?

Yes over a $1600 part available from GM parts guy. $500 option when I selected my option when the car was first-ordered.

Must be why the Manual says not to wax it. Wash only.

Ditto! Not a mark on it (other than some waving that seem to come on it).

anything that landed on mine would etch it .. paint .. clear on it was so soft .. so I stripped it to the carbon fiber and yes they paint them do to flaws .. but they are edge flaws that didn't bother me ..

Watch a few you tube on $75 Cquartz application, perfectly fine for the CF, and will reduce scratches and marks significantly.

I always vowed to never have another black car because of how difficult it is to keep swirl free. Sure all cars can get the . But the visibility on black makes me sad.

I don't know that it's the blackness of the insert, but the softness (lack of hardness) of the coating on the cf insert.

It is the special clearcoat they use on carbon fiber. They have used it on on the Corvette roof for a few years. It is unbelievably expensive, like $1600 a quart or somesuch number. It's a soft clearcoat that SPF blocks Uv it which can weaken/destroy the CF.
