Should I hear the whistle of my turbo???
When I first bought the car, I swear I used to hear the turbo spooling up. I heard it with the top down or at least the windows open. I never heard it when the car was sealed up.
I just changed the oil in the garage and revved it up a bit and didn't hear anything. Shouldn't I hear some level of whistle??? Especially in an relatively enclosed space??? Or is there yet another thing wrong with this car?!?!

Turbos don't spool up unless they have a load. You need to be driving or stall it up to get it to spin hard enough to hear it. It also helps when you have some mods.

Alright. Thanks fellas. This is my first turbo car so, not sure what to really expect.
What's the best way to get a turbo gauge on a 1LT car? I have the Torque App and a Bluetooth OBDII reader. That's probably the easiest way? Is there a gauge install thread out there I haven't come across yet???

The torque boost gauge only reads vacuum not boost.

You're not going to hear much whistling with these baby turbos. The whistle you hear from other cars are upgraded or added turbos. I've upgraded mine with ZZP's ZFR and you can hear the whistling much louder and easily from inside the cab with windows up.
I am also Gauged.. haven't done any write-ups and haven't seen much. It's a bit old school because these car have all the sensors and can be pulled with the obd port which most people do. My boost gauge is tapped in with a throttle body spacer |
