Each Camaro sale is good for all of us. Even if V8 sales took a nose dive I'm sure as long as Camaro sales across the other engines were strong we would still get a great engine from the corvette for those who want more performance.
While some people may have an elitist attitude I think most of us are trying to be helpful. After personally buying the wrong new car twice sacrificing performance for practicality I wasn't happy with either car and wasted a lot of money.
If I could tell my past self to drive something cheap, work hard, and save for the car I really wanted I could have gotten it sooner. I convinced myself by reading reviews of people who were happy with the compromise vehicles that they were enough. For some of us they aren't enough and compromising will simply leave people like myself feeling like they made a mistake.
Everyone has their own opinion so it really is important to test drive and go with your gut.
It sounds like the OP did just that and is going to make the right decision for them.
