I like black because it doesn't create another competing color on the car, on most cars. You know, you get the paint color, then black plastic bits of various shades, probably some chrome here and there (ugh), then another shade of grey for the wheels. No thanks, not for me on most cars.
Your black looks great with gunmetal, but my blue looks better with black. I don't believe in absolutes! Absolutely none of them (ha).

I know what you mean. But as I said, with black wheels you cant see the design having the same tire color. For me you need to contrast to appreciate the wheel.
If my car were blue, dark bronze would be my choice for wheels. But gunmetal looks really good. I can use gunmetal over black in any car color.
