The defroster vent simply does not close/seal as it should when in AC mode. Air flow should be coming through the front dash vents, not the defroster vent....
What you will end up with is a windshield that still fogs, a dash that likely has scratches/scuffs and rattles all to sh*t over bumps..
GM needs to re-engineer the defroster vent sealing/function. This is not a computer problem or a "firmware" problem.
And the GM customer care reps can't do sh*t, other then get points for the amount of referrals they hustle up on forums sent to dealers.
Out of the 20 or so cars that I have owned, this is the only one that has ever done this.

Yes, I hope no further damage is done and GM finds a fix for all of us. Just an FYI when some keyboard mechanic tells you it's normal and makes fun of you for expecting your 50k + car to not have issues like this tell them to shove it. I just took mine out for an evening stroll. Set at 75 on the left control fan speed low the windshield started fogging up immediately. Passenger side turned off. Definitely not right. All the cars and trucks I've owned and never have I dealt with this. I agree with others assessments. Somehow the design or execution failed on the dash vent to passenger vents being open with closing off the windshield vents.
