that market no longer exists . people don't come out of high school into good paying blue collar jobs anymore. at one point when my dad was in his mid 20s he had two cars and a small house he bought on the GI bill after being drafted, all on just a blue collar salary. by the time people get through college today they're buying 'sensible' cars. i've said it many times over the years, but people keep making up other reasons. that market started drying up 35 years ago and never came back. and it's not 'lack of testosterone' either because sales of trucks tripled. the Camaro can't be all things to all people. even at the height of 5thgen sales it was only selling what the camaro and firebird were selling combined 25 years ago. now alone in the market the mustang isn't selling all that well.
Did you realize two sets of golf clubs fit in a Gen5 and easily fit in a current Mustang? And the ATS coupe, the same architecture as the Camaro also can get two sets in the trunk. Annnnd the Gen5, 6 and 8 Corvettes do the same.

It was just a choice GM made. BUT I can assure you GM used its internal test for luggage and convinced themselves they could put golf clubs in the trunk. The problem is what GM uses for that test are clubs from the 1960s in a canvas Sunday bag. The driver is 3” shorter than today’s and in my test, I could get my clubs in the trunk of the Gen6 Camaro IF I PUT THE DRIVER IN THE BACK SEAT.

But that is just the example of the fact the trunk is smaller. Top that off with a high lift over and yo7 have a trunk less usable than the other two players in the segment.

Now going antiquing is a new one.
