I wouldn't say places routinely sell the wrong gaskets, my particular incident may have been a fluke. Before you start wrenching count the number of holes in the gasket and verify with your pan. I do believe the one I got had the correct filter but a gasket for the V8 cars. As far as getting the manual online I'm sure it's possible but I've never looked into it as I'm pretty ol' school when it comes to info but I do visit YouTube quite often nowadays. Yeah, $80 is kinda spendy but in the long run it might be worth it if it's convenient, saves you time and reduces frustration.
