You better have John Wick skills before you come out the door brandishing, otherwise openly engaging in armed conflict puts everyone else around you at risk for every round fired that doesn't hit you or the other gunman.
I hate thieves just as much as the next person. If your states laws allow you to defend your property wherever it is in that manner, go for it.
Clearly Shepherd has life opinions some don't care for. Maybe he doesn't live in a glass house. Everything you do in life carries risk. I've seen it myself, folks driving GT500's, R8's, ZL1's, Corvettes, other hot cars, and living in apartments or condo's, no garages. I don't hate on them, they have every right to live the way they want to live, and in a perfect world people should respect others property. But we don't live in that world. So if you street an expensive vehicle, or anything you can't readily afford to replace/lose, you're taking a huge risk. Perhaps, even living beyond your means. In 2019 the statistic was 60% of people in this country live paycheck to paycheck. Social media stirs up the thirsty folks, and before you know it, you gotta drive that hot car so you can keep up with the Jones'. Today, I know more than a few folks who are a layoff away from giving up their cars/trucks, and a few months of unemployment away from a bankruptcy.
Like I said, Shepherd's opinion is a little on the salty side, but it has merit and it's his opinion. Regardless of how much security GM gave us, it's our responsibility as owners to secure our property. Whether that includes spending hundreds or thousands to do it, depends on what your property is worth to you.
Regardless, there's not much for material things worth risking your life for.

Agree totally. It not even risking your life for 30 to 60k. If you have insurance you are risking your life simply in principal, or to see if watching all 4 John Wick movies stuck.

Letting someone steal insured property is not cowering in fear. As I said it would be for principal only. And if your principal is to just start blasting (insert Danny Davito meme) your choice to face the consequences.

It's not like I'd let someone punk me out of my car in a face to face. You don't have to cower in fear, but you have to be smart enough to make sure the law is on your side. Even if you get cleared criminally, you still may face civil charges. It could be a week or two, or up to a year or more of your life tied up defending your actions. I promise it won't be more than 60 days waiting for that insurance check.

This. There is a reason some people want to take the shield away from LEOs and this is it. To get more money in a lawsuit.
Again, it’s just the practical solution if your life or your families isn’t in danger.

Avoid conflict at all costs. What you don’t know is the thief has also watched all 4 John Wick movies.

Not solved but avoided.
I wonder if your insurance covers bullet holes in your Camaro that you put there.
Again, it’s why we buy insurance. Not worth jail, loss of assets, and simply living with the thought you killed someone over a Camaro. I couldn’t.
Good luck.
