I guess I've been using parking lots wrong. Instead of leaving my car and going in the grocery store I guess I should pay someone passing by to buy my groceries so I don't have to take my eyes off the car for even a second.

That's what people do in south america. There's a guy in the parking lot looking at cars. It's a mafia. If you don't pay him 5/10/20 bucks they either key your door or the car is gone.
