Because the statute of limitations for stolen vehicles tends to vary in length based on damage incurred (depends on the State), insurance assessments are usually much more detailed.

For example, in Illinois, the statute of limitations is one year for less than $1,000 in damage and three years for more than $1k. My 2014 Accord was stolen in 2016 and the insurance assessment took an hour and had the car on a lift to inspect every aspect. $6k was found and repaired.
Not asking anyone to guess for me. Just wanted someone who may have experienced something like this to chime in.
