I was following a friend of mine at a decent clip and as we dove into a blind left hairpin, we came face to face with some moron driving an 18 wheeler going the opposite direction that was blocking both lanes! Thankfully, it was one of those rare turns where there was an outside shoulder barely a car width wide. But it was just enough to give us an escape route with some hard braking.
Yikes! Coming around the corner to a car in your lane is an unfortunate hazard, that's why it pays to keep a little in reserve. An 18-wheeler though, man, I've seen the whole road shut down because once they go down, they get stuck. There's a lot of warning signage from the TN side, but nothing from the NC side.

I've taken an NC Miata, E30, E36 M3, F30 328i, C5 Corvette, and the Camaro definitely feels wide.
