I was just gonna comment something similar. I was very quick to bash the 2.9 as these big shops couldn’t get a car to go as fast as a ported stock 1.7 setup. But I’m gonna tell you as of recently I’ve tuned a few myself and had customers willing to push the pulley selection. A whipple 2.9 on 24 psi doesn’t make any more heat then it does at 18 psi. These customers are street racers don’t really dyno or go to the track so to say I have a number or et 1/4 time to post I don’t. But when a z06 can roll on a 1000cc bike with a turbo I’m guessing it’s pretty damn fast. So seems that no one was willing to push the 2.9 to a lot more rpm. I guess this is due to failures snout breaking maybe. I don’t know but going from typical 18 psi whipple build to over 20 psi really woke this car up and I was shocked by the results. The fact it added zero blower temp was just a plus as I thought they ran hot vrs the 2650 which it does vrs a 2650 at 18-20 psi on typical cooling mods and methanol. But it does plateau is what I’m seeing. Honestly I can’t wait to see what a 3.0 is capable of as a mustang is turning way more rpm then we do so they already spin the crap out of the larger rotors.
It’s really a shame Kenny bell has no interest in direct injection gm. After I made 1450whp on a gen 2 Ctsv at 25 psi with a Kenny bell I saw how good screws can really be vrs a lobe. Seems a lot more potential in a screw when it’s in a big enough case that it won’t get too hot as not enough cooling support.
