FWIW, I have driven a 2017 SS with light mods almost back to back with my own 20 1SS 1LE on autocross courses, and the 19+ is definitely way improved. I got consistent ice mode in a couple spots on the course where I codrove this car, whereas in 2.5 seasons of autocross use I've gotten ice mode twice ever in my car. So that's a big improvement.
I'm surprised that the newer modules just drop in to the pre-19 cars given that the communication strategy changed from MOST to ethernet in 19. I guess that doesn't affect the control modules? I'm sure that engineer knows what he's talking about, though.
