It'll work

I was doing an after track inspection and looked closely at the backing plate.
All you need to do is trim the backing plate just below the caliper to mimic the area just above the caliper. No way for material to get into the parking brake. Be sure to not trim too much so that you don't uncover the knuckle bushing is the only caution.

Pic 1 is just above the caliper
Pic 2 is just below the caliper

Both are of the driver's side

Keep in mind that this adds a little weight, split between sprung/unsprung...........
