Supercar 3 wider than Supercar 3R?
1 Attachment(s)
So I just received some Supercar 3‘s in ZLE sizes and stacked them up next to a set of ZLE wheels I have with 3R’s on them. Both stacks are 2x325/30/19 and 2x305/30/19.
Are the supercar 3’s wider then the 3R? Once I mount them and use them will they narrow to match? I guess I will find out once I get them mounted up and put some miles on them. |
wow!

eh just throw them on. Just more rubber to keep you planted now.

I would say throw a tape measure across both sizes of the 3s on the inside to get a bead to bead measurement. If the 305s are more than 11" and the 325s are more than 12", then you know the wheels will be pulling in on them and make them more narrow. That seems like a large difference though.

Both mounted on same size wheels ?

I have a new set of both G3 and G3R's unmounted I just measured individually and all together. The G3's unmounted are 9.5mm total wider Section Width than the G3R's unmounted (305 & 325/30/19). Anyways...the G3’s are a fat set of tires, and the G3R's are not exactly skinny ones for their given sizes. That's the top of the stacks of four new tires each.

According to Tire Rack, the rears are exactly the same for both the 3 and 3R. 13.0 section width, 12.3 tread width, and 26.3 diameter.
The fronts are slightly different. For the 3's, 12.3 section width, 11.6 tread width, and 26.3 diameter. The 3R is the same other than tread width which is 11.3. |

It would seem that unmounted would be meaningless. Everything about tires and suspension should be based on operating conditions, no? |

I just wanted to compare unmounted to unmounted where the original poster had mounted G3R's vs. unmounted G3's. |

Interesting that the front tread widths are different, unless a typo on their site. |
Welcome to the world of tires. Diameters and widths do not match between manufacturers and your lucky if they do within the same line.

Unmounted vs mounted, yeah a tire will likely get narrow in terms of section width, but tread width will be tread width. It's not like material all of a sudden disappears.
I mean, you also need to consider an unloaded vs loaded mounted tire too. If the 305 SC3 is wider than the SC3R, you may not get that extra tread to the main contact patch, but it will be there rolled more onto the sidewall, which can mean something depending on your alignment settings and suspension. So instead of rolling onto the sidewall or end of the tread, you roll onto more tread or are less at the end of the tread. |
