Header Bolts Anti-seize

Opps...Mods please delete my other post in the v6 thread, although this is relative to both.

Sorry if this question is one of those that has a given answer, but I've never did this before.

When installing Kooks Headers or headers in general, do you use Anti-seize on the bolts, or install it dry?

I have SS bolts from Summit, and Permatex Anti-seize with a 1,600 degrees F.

Or is there a special Anti-seize for headers to withstand higher temps?

Also, what about on the O2 Sensors?

Thank you!

I didnt use any, kooks headers come with some locks so your bolts dont come undone, stage 8 I think. I didnt use any on the 02 sensors either but I cant confirm that is ok.

Did you use the bolt locks?
I'm thinking anti-seize just in case I ever need to remove the headers in the future, then again the heat might prove to be too much!:noidea:

I will use them on my O2 sensors though, since I'll probably need to replace them sooner or later.
What did you torque the O2 sensors at?

ALWAYS use anti-seize on header/exhaust man. bolts.

GM tq Specs for dry and says not to.

I went to two finger torque spec haha, I dont actually know, just went off of feel. I wouldn't imagine too much. If you install the Locks before you button up your coolant tank it will be much easier.

been putting headers on various vehicles going on 20 years now. never used antiseize.

Thanks for the advice/suggestions!
Looks like this is a mixed topic of opinions, even on other forums.

I'll look into this further, maybe call a few shops and see what they say...or not say.

There’s something dry on the factory threads.

Ventmaster 11-25-2019 12:13 PM

IMHO, definitely dry on the header bolts and yes for anti-seize on O2 sensors.

CrazyCatGuy 11-25-2019 04:26 PM

I always go in dry. YMMV

RandRZL1 11-25-2019 06:27 PM

Ok I usually stay outa these things but here goes, I have worked in exhaust shops every thing went together dry. Never had any major problems. My own shit? I put anti seize whenever I have dissimilar metals and or heat. Makes life much easier later on. Good luck!

JCunningham 11-25-2019 06:31 PM

well the only thing is if your going to put anti seize on them recheck the torque often. maybe go 25lbft wet

Yes that's what I've been gathering...the anti-seize does affect the torque value...and I don't want to break a bolt in them heads.
If I go in wet, I'm thinking around 20 + 180 degrees or so...maybe 22 + 90 depending on how it feels. Plus I'll use the locks.
The fun all starts tomorrow, since my company gave us all the rest of the week off...NICE!
