2650 MAT - What is your experience?

What is your experience with MAT in a 2650, either Eddie or Maggie, with an intercooler water tank (7.5 gal.)? I realize it's largely a function of blower and engine speeds.

Mine has been:

106F with 3"/9.17" at 6700 rpm
140F with 2.75"/9.17" at 6930 rpm

140F is higher than it should be and I'm trying to figure out why.

Having said that, the car pulls hard and smooth (spending a lot of time driving in 5th). KingLT1 has done some nice work with the tune particularly on the torque management side. But it does need a Toyo 345 now.

That’s where my 2650
Usually is. Then starts coming down as the boost goes up.

My temps increase right along with rpm. What are your temps at redline say 5th gear.

As airflow demand, and usually speed, increase, I would expect MATs to start falling. On an ambient 90* day, steady state cruising at 60 (for minutes at a time), I'll see MATs around 150-160*. I'll lose probably 10* in MATs as soon as I get into the throttle, by, like, 10*, on a 3-5 second hit. That's only a stock lower and 90mm upper. I only have an upgraded HE - no extra tanks or anything. I've seen others that have worked with 2650s say that you might be starting to shoot yourself in the foot when you start spinning much past 20-lbs. Basically - he was saying builds like this need BIG cam and heads, otherwise air starts backing up, and spinning the blower just creates heat. This guy seems to have build several 2650s get get well through 1100 at the tires at less than 19-20-lbs.

Yours is supposed to be a dual-pass. So the air comes out the discharge port, through the center of the IC, hits and splits under the lid, and goes back through the outer sides of the IC before going into the intake ports. I've not seen any claims of the Edelbrock having heat issues with this generation. Is you IC pump going out, or are one of the lines pinched or something? Do you need to add another pump for your remote tank?

Did your other tuner not set your VTT right? WTF? King will get you straight.

Mine makes 20 lbs consistently. I spun real bad on a recent hit and boost went to 22 and MAT went to 200, which makes sense.

I think it's something mechanical and will have another shop look at it. This Craig Davies pump is rated at 40gpm. A wide-open garden hose won't flow that much at 50 psi, and it sure doesn't feel like when I stick my hand in the tank.

Might end up having to go back to the 3" upper

The question is 40 GPM but at what differential pressure? As restriction grows all pumps move less GPM. Here’s a chart that’s pretty helpful showing all the popular intercooler pumps out there.

I have never seen a MAT of 200, even when they were testing the 2650 at 29 psi doing multi gear pulls to 165 MPH on the dyno. In fact, it was 110-115 depending on when they put ice in it.

If I'm reading this correctly, EMP is the choice.

I had not either even with the 1.7L. Here, tires spun, the car spun badly and fish tailed, MAP went to 235, boost to 23#, MAT 200.

But it's current normal is 140F, w/o ice, at 6900. Ice brings it way down.

An EMP pump should help a ton.

LPE says EMP is on one year back order, so maybe CWA ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7hpfvztm0M ) or Meizzere next

That is a bummer on the EMP. The CWA looks strong in the video.

I found a CWA 400, which has 1.5" discharge/return versus my current 1", so I would have to alter my tank or buy a new one

Joshinator99 11-18-2022 04:42 PM

I bought a CWA-150 and it’s sitting in my garage. That’s definitely going in this winter. The Varimax isn’t cutting it IMO.
