Who has changed the heads or ported theirs?
 

Decided this needs a new thread. Curious if you had yours ported or replaced. I am on the fence. How much gain from porting? How much from New castings? Was looking at the Texas Speed heads or to do the porting.

I know probably not needed for my 750-800rwhp goals, but since it is apart it is now or never. I am adding a BTR Stage 2 and a 2650 all on 93.

Tune Time Performance ported mine on the 5-axis CNC machine. They were coming off and it was one of those "while we are here" things.

what other mods? Porting seems to be in the $900-1200 range opposed to a set of custom heads in the 2800-3000 range. But dont see any post or claims of what power to expect from either. Not sure $3000 for 35-40hp is worth it. Perhaps it is a higher gain, but no idea.

When u finished your build what were your hp results? 93 octane car?

From Pray's research he doesn't see any justification in aftermarket castings with how well companies are porting the stock castings. I would have GPI or TSP port your stock heads and you can pocket the $4-5k you'll save from aftermarket castings

I am trying to justify doing the porting as well. Is there enough to be gained for the $1k and 2 extra weeks of the car being down. I'm led to believe there is only 15-30hp to be gained.

30 rwhp is well worth 1k to me

Not sure I will be running enough boost to get the 30 out of them. I am thinking of running 15% lower with the 90mm upper all on 93. One of my biggest issues is the 2 extra weeks of down time.

One thing porting does, people don’t think about is the flow and efficiency of it.
Not only couple extra Hp which is nice. Say you have 700hp at 14psi stock heads,
You can get 720 at 12psi on your ported heads. Less strain on your valve train and motor. Well worth it if you already have the heads off. ����

Power is in the heads.. If you're doing a cam you might as well anyways. Efficient combo! Make more power with less effort

It's generally worth about 25-30rwhp. The only problem is it's a big job just to do the heads. So if you're doing the cam its a great time to get the heads done.



About $900 for the port work or you're paying big bucks for new castings and port work. Just depends on how long you can deal with the car being down. If you drop the money on the castings you can always sell your stock heads later. They are worth good cash

i got mine ported while i had then off for the same "might as well". I have no idea if it gained me any power because I changed so much.
