Stock pads?
I'm about to do my first track day with my ZL1-1LE. How good are the stock pads?
I'm impressed that apparently the Nürburgring car was running stock pads. What should I expect? The only brake mod I've done is run Motul 600. I was going to use Castrol but there seems to be a nationwide shortage. This is not my first time doing a track day. I've done 50 -75 in my '03 Z06 over the past 4 years. I will be running at Willow Springs and I expect the temperature to be in the low 80s. |
Plenty of threads on this already...
I was impressed overall on the stock compound, however i did get them to fade a little bit after 20-25 mins on track. I have tried the DTC60 all around and now i am on Gloc r12 which fall right in the middle of 60 and 70’s. Easy to modulate and great overall bite without too much initial torque to upset the vehicle. |
Thanks for the reply. How much are those pads, and where do you purchase them?
|
Sorry if there are already threads on this as well, but do most guys run OEM rotors/rotor rings?
|
i would use the stock pads the first time and if you feel the need to upgrade after you can !
|
Had no issues with stock pads at WSIR. I think stock pads are fine for pretty much all tracks in CA.

Ive almost gone thru an entire pad set and I have zero issues. Good fluid and lines that I will sone be upgrading will solve most fade issues, but I never have had a hint of fade. Pads can be had for about 300 a set on amazon.

I'm surprised by how inexpensive the stock pads are, so I'm hoping they will work at the tracks I run (Willow, Buttonwillow, and Laguna Seca).
For the poster who said he got fade, you mean pad fade (pedal getting harder) and not fluid fade (soft pedal), correct? Also, do you guys run stock rotors/rotor rings? |

This car benefits most from driver mod. |

That's weird. So you have to buy both the rotor ring and the hat together each time the rotors need replacing?
What is the best place to buy them? |

I run Sonoma, Thunderhill and Laguna Seca with stock pads. They work well for me. I'm new, 8 days, and seems like a brake fluid flush helps keep the brakes from fading. |
Does anyone have a link or a product number for the stock front brake pads? Thanks

Good prices, nice delivery options and 5% discount offers after your first or second purchase. I get both the rotors and stock pads there. Cheers! |
Good fluid is key. SRF is great as it needs only one bleed per season (15-20 days). If unavailable, Willwood makes very good DOT4 racing fluid which is very close to SRF specs (and seems equally expensive).

I might add, that if you are running the Motul (I do), you need to bleed the brakes a bit after each track event.
