Hoping to get out there after work to remove the torque converter bolts.

This a8 is FING heavy!!! The swap was straight forward.

Tips for removing the trans:
Get the car as high as you can. Pic shows I just barely had room to slide the trans out from under the car.

The top two bell housing bolts can be reached from the engine bay above the motor. The others from under.

Fluid will keep dripping and keep dripping when you pull the trans lines off. What a mess.

Spacing between the bell housing and the converter pads are 1 inch.

Don’t over tighten converter bolts.

Circle D sent new bolts, loctite, washers... really nice. I had arp bolts already and you can see they were a little shorter than the ones from Circle D. I decided to use the longer ( non ARP ) bolts and the thin washer. This gave me a couple more threads into the converter.
I got them all finger tight, then snug w wrench, then tight w ratchet, then did my double check on tight and def over torqued them because I ended up breaking the last converter bolt off. Mother Fer!!!! I was cranking on them pretty good. My fault. I was able to get a 90* drill and my extractor in there to get it out so I didn’t have to drop the trans again. After I got the broken bolt out, I pulled the rest of them and put the ARPs back in with loctite and set them to 45ft lb. This coulda sucked if I had to drop the trans a 2nd time.

I got 95% of it back together but didn’t start it yet to check for issues and fluid level. I’ll do that soon.

waiting for the quart pump and hose to come in so i can check/add trans fluid.

There's still salt and possible snow coming here in buffalo. I'll get this trans all buttoned up and probably leave it on jack stands for fuel upgrades. low side, hpfp and injectors. Then go back to Frumusa Performance in Roch to have it retuned to launch and make some more power.

I was going to do the converter first, re tune, make some passes to do an apples to apples. Then do the fuel. I really just want the 9 so We'll see what i finally decide to do. Might be better to have all the mods done at one time and then i can enjoy it all season.

Wonder how the 10 speed would do in the 1/8th. My N?A TA is running 1.64 60ft running a Yank 3600 stall. I can't imagine racing with out a good stall.

Ordered lt4 injectors, lt4 hpfp, lt4 cross over line and AUX low side pump from DSX. No excuses now.

Is the LT4 crossover line needed? I didn't order that piece when I did the LT4 fuel system, just the two pumps and injectors.

Not sure. I remember reading somewhere it’s needed and has a new 45* bend instead of the factory style. For $40 bucks... whatever.

I need to find the upgraded feed line that goes into the hpfp w out the flex section. Another piece of the puzzle that is said to make a difference.

I'd like to know if someone does, I am not sure if it will matter for me or not anyway because I bought a secondary port injection system from Crawford Racing.

If you decide to go with the LT4 feed line rather than the AN line we talked about, let me know. I have a brand new one here.

^^ damn I forgot to ask you about it on the phone. Oh well.

Choda 03-18-2020 10:34 AM

Im pretty sure this is the "updated" feed tube because it does not have the braided flex section.

What do you guys think?

Ordered the fuel feed line ^^^^ and a new AC Belt (ACDelco 12685983). OK I'm just about done spending money on this. I have 3 qts of trans fluid on my shelf to check my fluid. Once the fuel system is installed and good to go, I'm one tuning session away from some power and a 9 sec slip.

Also got this in the mail, should make filling the trans easy.

I put two quarts in the fill hole and ran the car through the gears. Everything seems fine, I let it run for 35 min and it wouldn't get above 100*. It needs to be ~135* to check the fluid level. It was cold out yesterday. I'll get it back on the ground and drive it around to get some heat into the transmission. Sucks because getting it up in the air is the biggest pain.

Pump worked great.

Fuel parts are showing up. I want to get this transmission buttoned up before jumping into the fuel. We just got a little more snow today, race season is about 4 weeks away.
