After remodeling my whole house I finally got to the garage last year.

Tips:

- Get a retractable air hose reel for your air compressor. Put the compressor out of the way (under your workbench?) but where you can still turn it on. Run some standard air hose to the wall, up the wall, then along the ceiling to the middle of the garage ceiling. Attach the hose reel to the ceiling, with the end of the hose (hose on the reel) dangling down far enough to reach it, but high enough to not be in the way of cars or your head. Then, you can have a hose that reaches anywhere in your garage, but also have it out of the way when you need it.

- If you are remodeling, get as many outlets as possible. And, have them at chest height. If not, get some 6' long power strips (https://www.globalindustrial.com/p/e...0aAs6yEALw_wcB) and mount them on the wall, or the front of your shelving. This way you can plug things in easily.

- If you have a work bench, mount a standard (or 2!) power strip right above it (eye level, actually - so the cords aren't intruding on your bench) so you can power tools without reaching far.

- For a cheap workbench, make it out of 2x4s for legs, with some cross bracing along the sides and back (not front). Make the top out of 2 layers of 3/4" plywood. Then, cover the top with medium thickness galvanized steel. Cheaper, lighter, and easier than a metal bench, but almost as sturdy and durable.

- Mount vices, grinders, etc. on the corners of the bench.

- A peg board behind your bench works nicely. Either to hang tools, or spare parts and other misc crap.

- If you have a tool chest, label the drawers. And, place it right next to your workbench so you're not walking far to get stuff.

- Get good lighting. More = better. I went to Home Depot and bought the cheapest 3-bulb fixture I could find. Any wattage works, since you'll be using LED bulbs and can stick a 100w-equivalent into a fixture rated for only 15w bulbs. Then, screw 3-4 of these fixtures to a single 2x4. Hang the 2x4 above your workbench (literally - hang it by a chain on hooks in your ceiling) and splice all the wires into an extension cord. Plug the cord into your power strip. Then, when you turn on the strip, your lights come on. I have 12 100w (equivalent) LED bulbs above my work bench. And, if I need, I can remove it from the ceiling and put it under a car, or wherever. Compare my 19,200 lumens of light against a standard shop fixture of 3500 or so.

- If you are hanging new ceiling lights (assuming 2-car garage), put 4 of them in. 2 in the center, running end-to-end parallel to the cars, and one on either side of the car. That way, the light comes down on the sides of the cars (and reflects underneath a bit) rather than on top of the cars (creating a shadow underneath).

- Paint walls white, so that the whole garage is brighter.

I have a big garage (it is a 3-wide but the last bay is double-deep so it can fit 4 cars on the ground and enough room for 2 lifts) but it is new construction and I gotta finish the rest of the house before I do my "Dream Garage" build. One day I will be cool like you others.

My 3 car garage that is coming right along. Lots of time is spent out here.

Those are some great pics! I have a 3 car garage, making the single car garage my woodshop, with the 2 car my GARAGE CAVE of sorts. I've added some flags, my Air Force flag, SOCOM flag, US Flag and FSU flag on some of the walls/ceiling.

Look closer. It's actually a mini beer fridge sitting on a black drawer unit. I made parts, bought parts, made decals, added lighting, etc. to make it look like a gas pump.
