Strange Redline

This morning I was getting breakfast from a cold start and on the way home I turned the corner, gave it a little punch because the roads were a little wet and I wanted I little fish-tail for funzzys; nothing extreme. However, my rpm’s went uncharacteristically all the way up to peak redline and would not drop. I was in touring mode so it freaked me out. I switched my auto to manual mode and shifted to 2nd and that released the throttle letting the rpm’s drop. Must have been at max redline throttle for a good 3-5 seconds. Wtf was that?

If you blipped the pedal all the way down, sounds like you went into "Competitive Shift Mode." Aka- beast mode, lol

Shouldn’t that not happen when I’m in “tour” mode though? Also, I thought that when you blip it in sport and track, it stays just below redline.

Good question regarding Tour mode, I've never tried it in Touring. But it should definitely stay below redline, so maybe there's another explanation. I'm sure someone here will have some insight.

Are we talking well into the redline, like 7k plus? Or right at the 6500 line?

Can confirm it only activates in Sport or Track

As far as it goes. I was seriously freaking out. If I hadn’t manually shifted it, I don’t know what would’ve happened. What was also weird was that it was like it was in neutral too. I wasn’t accelerating while this was happening.

Have you ever purposely engaged competitive mode. It kind of sounds like that's what happened.
I personally don't like to use it.

This is an issue, nothing to do with competitive mode that keeps rpms in the meat of the powerband and shifts just fine. Apparently the A10 didn't want to upshift automatically, and OP had to "help it out" using manual mode.

I'd pull the codes first to see what the ECM/TCM thought had happened.

I’ll get a reader. Do the codes store long? I didn’t know codes would come up without a check engine light.

The threshold for MIL (check engine light) is much higher than that for a code to be set. More serious codes typically don't go away on their own, presumably so that the mechanic the car is taken to later can read them out.

Some trivial codes can go away, but hitting redline and the TCM not commanding a shift (if that's what happened) on a stock car is definitely serious IMO.

Closest I can relate is downshifting to a stop then when I go again in auto mode it hangs first gear more than usual, were you in manual mode just prior? Although mine just goes up to like 5k rpm and not redline
