Hose to nowhere

I've just noticed this hose/conduit that has been cut and taped up. I've looked at some engine bay pics but can't tell where it goes or if it's needed. Thought maybe to original air cleaner. Any ideas

do a search for sound tube delete threads.
Picture isn't so great, but looks like they cut off and taped part of the sound tube rather than plugging it at the firewall.
