your experiences purchasing a used camaro

If you have purchased a used Camaro, what methods did you research & what turned out to be the one that worked for you?
- Dealership lot
- Online (Carvana, carmax, etc)

I'm asking because if I need to purchase another car, I'd like it to be a used 2ss Convertible and would like lower payments thatn what I would have with a brand new car.

I had a good experience. I bought my used SS in MI and had it shipped. Finding exactly what you are looking for in your area only, can be challenging.

I payed off my 5th gen November 22nd of 2018 with no intention of selling it any time soon. November 25th of 2018 I went to go get something from the store and was passing a local chevy dealership on the way, out if the corner of my eye saw my current 2017 certified 2SS on the lot, eyes popped, but still went to the store. Popped in on the way back to get all the details, car had everything I was looking for somehow, made a quick trip home, dropped off what I grabbed, cleaned out the glovebox on the 5th gen, went back to the dealer, couple hours later was driving home in my 6th gen. On a sunday of all days too lol
It’s funny how you can come across them sometimes, but I feel like now it’s much harder to get lucky like that. My experience with used is always go with certified.

consider a gently used CPO car.i got my 2015 in 2016 from my local chevy dealer.wanted the 6 cylinder but didnt want to pay 1500 bucks extra for it.i wound up saving a decent amount of money and got a better warranty too.

Foolishly started looking for my Camaro in March 2021 (as the market was taking off!). After missing out on several because I was too slow to see what was going on in the market, I started expanding my searches nationwide on sites like CarGurus. I wanted a very specific set of options on a V6 Camaro (2017-2018, 2LT, 1LE package, PDR, etc.) and found a 206 mile CPO vehicle that matched my criteria perfectly in rural Ohio. Negotiated the deal right before Memorial Day weekend, and had the car a week later. I did have to pay $840 to have it shipped, but I figured I easily saved that money over what I would have had to have paid in central Florida, where the same car would've been $1-$2k more at the time, and we have considerably higher dealer fees to navigate then rural Ohio (the selling dealer out of Ohio only had a $250 doc fee). Moral of the story, either find exactly what you want and don't be afraid to have it shipped or order it.

My last two Camaro's were used. I bought my 2011 from a dealership and my 2017 was an online purchase from an out of state dealership.

2011 was a solid car at a great price at the time, only issues were with the dealership trying to fix what they said they would when I agreed. Curb rash, and a couple service bulletins. Price was better than anywhere else at the time.

2017 was "used" with 400 miles and showed up with a bad converter. Not an uncommon problem but I couldn't drive it to see. All fixed no issues from the local dealership though so not a huge deal, just annoying. Price was better than new car price but it was actually kinda high for what I was finding online but it was exactly what I was looking for and still cheaper than new.

I think your issue now is finding something. The new ones are probably cheaper than the used ones. I was pricing ZL1's right before the COVID stuff happened and I should have jumped on one then. The KBB value of my '17 is higher now than I paid for it 3 YEARS AGO, which is insane to me.

i bought mine from a local, high end import car lot. car was originally bought from a chevrolet dealership about 30 miles from there. i used every online source available to me, even had a friend actively searching the auction databases. finding a used current model year was tough, came very very close to buying new. glad i waited just a little bit longer.

the car market now is nothing like it was 3-4 years ago, though. i would not bother buying used now because the difference in cost is definitely not worth it anymore.

I was looking for a used 2ss but found a brand new carry over 1ss the dealer was dumping due to the early COVID fears. It was only a few dollars more than what used 2ss were going for

It is a tough time to buy a used car right now since they cost about the same as new. The best buying strategy at the moment is to try and find a dealer that will sell you a new one at MSRP and give you top dollar for your trade. Otherwise, you can try and wait this out but I am not so sure prices will retreat all that much on Camaros since we will probably never see any really supply of them before they sunset the Camaro in a year or so.

Bought my 2017 RS V6 M6 Vert for 20k at a Porsche dealer who accepted it as a trade. According to the dealer, they could sell the car for more overseas but after one test drive, I was sold. The wind has been in my hair since, 134k on the odometer now, started at 48k. I did have a 3160 M6 fail due to a lack of fluid, I’m not sure if it leaked out or was never checked. Regardless, has been my favorite car to drive for almost 100k across the country and back. Besides the tranny, I have only have to replace the front struts and a bent rim from a pot hole as well as a few sensors and the convertible top switch. Insurance has been $300 a month but my speeding record certainly has not helped either. Lesson learned, I always have the tranny fluid level checked at every oil change.

BE CAREFUL! I would look for something low mileage... Something mid-mileage MAY have been beat on, likely a low mileage car was pampered and not driven hard...

Went to an Infiniti dealer to look at a q60 redsport. Nice car twin turbo v6 400 HP. Saw the SS on there website.

Ask guy showing the Infinity to me and first thing he says is it’s ProCharged.

Took it for a long test drive. The garage that put on the ProCharger had a sticker under the hood. Called them and stopped buy to check it out. Said everything looked great. I told him the price and he told me that this car has 15-20k put into it and to snap it up.

Lol…. I was convinced on the drive to see him

I got online and put in what my wants were ( low milage ZL1) and found one in Tampa at a good price and did a trade after the test drive. I wanted an A10 after driving a M6 for 4 years. I think autotrader was my goto website.

I concur. Especially if you are looking at a 1SS, 2SS, or any vehicle with the 1LE Track package. There is a good likelyhood they were put through their paces by previous owner(s), and you're purchasing a certain amount of additional wear and tear with every mile on the odometer. Low mileage is too tough; I just searched Cargurus.com for 2016-2022 used Camaros under 10k mileage, any engine, any trim, and it only returned 1,226 results, that's roughly 200 per model year in the entire country. Certainly helps explain the bonkers pricing.
