Potential Buyer coming from a C6 - Advice Please
Hey guys potential future buyer here and could use some advice. I currently have a C6 Corvette (LS3/Z51) as my weekend cruiser and am looking to transition to an SS 1LE Camaro. Wife and I recently had our first child and I would like something with a backseat for the little guy – I know it’s not much of a backseat but that’s ok.
With 2021’s on order I’m looking at a 1SS 1LE and hoping to get a deal on a 2020. I am curious if there any major difference between the years. I am inclined to go after the best “deal” I can find but understand that the 2021’s will offer an A10 tranny --- sounds great, but I think out of my $$ reach. Anything I should consider when looking for one? Any show stoppers/known issues? I considered a Challenger but they just don’t do it for me and neither does a mustang. The only Camaro 6Gen I’ve ever sat in was a ZL1 and I was extremely impressed with the performance (obviously) fit and finish was better than what I expected. If I could afford one of those I’d be all over it --- but guessing the 1SS 1LE is the next best thing. I contacted a dealership regarding a 2020 1SS 1LE and they didn’t budge. It was MSRP minus current 1500 rebate minus another 500 bucks. I expected a better price than that, or maybe I just need to be more aggressive….does that sound about right? I’ve started looking at 2019’s now and found some pretty good deals on cars with 3-5k miles on them. Which has me looking at some 2019 2SS with A10 tranny, but the 1LE just seems so much more of an attractive and fun car to have. Car will be used a weekend cruise, occasionally driven to work and emergency day car runs when wife can’t get out of work on time. I don’t foresee it as a our family car, but maybe as he gets a little older we’ll go on family cruises together. |

No real difference between the 2020's and 2021's. So go with whatever gets you the best price, which will likely be the 2020 with the $1500 cash back. Both the 2020 and 2021 come with the 10-speed AT if you go with automatic. I believe the 2019 was the year you can pick between the 8-speed with the optional 10-speed, and the 10-speed becoming the default AT in 2020 (No longer able to get the 8-speed). So no difference there.
I just picked up my 2021 2SS last week. Pricing wise, I got no incentives at all. Dealer discounted from MSRP about $2,300 down to invoice and that was about it. I spoke with a few dealers and none would really budge. From all my research, while you get outliers saying they got 5-7K off and such, it seems like getting around the invoice pricing is about the norm with these, along with any Chevy incentives stacked if available. Unless the dealer really is trying to get rid on inventory where they may cut their margins a bit more. |

Just a quick clarification, the 19's were all A10 for SS.

The SS 1LE is a great car and will likely surprise the hell out of you when you first toss it around some corners. I certainly never looked at my SS 1LE as though it was lesser than a ZL1. It was just a different setup. With that being said, there are very little differences between the SS 1LE's of the varying years.
2017 was only available as a 1SS. 2018-2020, 1SS and 2SS trims were available. 2021 the SS 1LE can now be optioned with the A10. To me, the A10 seals the deal. If for whatever reason I was in the market for another 6th gen Camaro, I'd get a 2021 SS 1LE A10 only. I wouldn't consider anything else but, that's me.

I daily drive my Camaro and take my elementary school aged children to school. It works great, but i'm not sure about a rear facing car seat. Hopefully there's someone else that can comment on that. But even with forward facing small kids in the back, the biggest varible is how tall you and the front passenger are. I'm 5'8" and it works fine, but if you're 6' or taller, you're probably going to have to move the seat more forward than you normally have it. |

I know that a new ZL1 is not in your budget so how about a used one with the M6 or A10 Auto? I would go with either a 2018 or 2019 though the 2019 would be more expensive. I was like you in March of 2019 looking at new SS 1LE Camaros and I was searching on Cars.com and found a low mileage used 2017 ZL1 for a decent price located about 300 miles from my home. I had a 2016 2SS for a trade in and after about a week or more of pondering the decision to buy the Z, I did and still have no regrets. The day I went to get it a person in California called the salesman and told him he would send a check for the car but he was too late. Mine had very low mileage(422) which I considered it to be a new 2 year old Camaro. Since you are used to a C6 with the LS3 and Z51 option, a ZL1 might be a better alternative but nothing is wrong with a SS 1LE either. They perform exceptionally well on a track and look good too but I definitely would get an M6 trans if you want to have more fun cruising!

Had a '17 ZL1, and yes it's an awesome car but with all that power and torque I could see me getting into lots of trouble , I am more comfortable in the (455 hp and torque) '19 SS/1LE and the payments are much easier on my finances.

Had a few C6s. Fun cars as is the Camaro. Had a '17 ZL1 and now have a 2020 SS 1LE which is about the same damn car less that beautiful engine. The purchase was intentional and I could have bought a new ZL1 this time around but couldn't see the value.
Keep looking for a 2020 used. I picked mine up with 250 miles for $38k and there was just a white one at the local Land Rover dealer with 2500 miles for $37,500. Patience. |

I hear of people getting decent deals but most people I talk to (I'm in California) pay within a grand or two the same price for 1ss 1les. The dealers don't budge much because it's low stock and even before the rona I took a year to find a red one. Definately get the manual. An auto 1le is just waiting for your IG name on the corner window
