Mice In The Trunk
I headed to the grocery store today and as I was putting bags in the trunk I noticed that mice had chewed the edge of the trunk liner. I didn't find any evidence that they had decided to make a home though. I presume there is a way they could have come up through the fender? I don't leave the trunk open, and I keep the car in a garage.

It's fairly obvious that now you need a cat in your trunk.

Mine set a week while I was out of town and I came back to ants. I finally sprayed the trunk, in the wheel wells, under the hood and the chassis.

FYI, you should go to any home improvement store and they sell this mice killer(we had field mice in our attic). It is a small green brick that you can buy a bag of and I put two UNDER where I park my car in the garage. What this stuff does it if mice go near it, they will take a nibble on it, then they start to"get thirsty" and run outside and die. They have worked for us in the attic and luckily I haven't seen any nibble bites off of the ones I put under the car. Always check your car for critters especially when parked for a long time(winter?). Not Expensive either.

Need to place a few of these in your garage in strategic locations. Load them up with peanut butter and dried fruit, a delectable cuisine that even the most persnickety rodent can't resist.

376 cubic inches of fun

All kidding aside, this is a serious subject. The reason mice chew up trunk liners or firewall insulation is to build nests. So look for one.
Look in the battery well under the trunk platform. Look under the engine cover and the engine and cabin air filters. I somehow avoided mice in my 2010 SS until this spring, when I was already using the car but the garage door was open a lot during a renovation project. The mice built right on the exhaust manifold which started to smolder when I drove the car after just a couple of weeks of disuse. I threw out the nest, made of firewall insulation. Then I checked both the cabin air filter and the engine air filter. The acorns in the engine filter box were two inches deep but the filter was untouched. The cabin air filter area was OK, but has been a mouse nest site on other cars I have owned. You should have mouse bait in the garage and traps too. The best snap traps are the plastic ones, not the old fashioned wire kind. The plastic ones come with a deep little bait cup, so that the mouse has to really get in deep to reach the bait. Also these traps have a nice big tab to open the trap without touching the mouse. And while I have used PB, the most reliable bait is just a drop of honey. |
