ZZperformane pillar pod install question

I cant find any videos on the install and I know its simple I'm just a little worried about the air bag in there. For anyone that has installed do I just unplug the sensor or do you leave it plugged in and pop it off the original pillar? I just don't want this thing to go off on me.. anybody with any knowledge on air bags can help too

I disconnected the battery before removing, just take your time and be careful with the mic up top.

I didn't disconnect the battery. Just pop it off with some trim tools if you have them and disconnect bungie and mic. It's pretty straightforward. Once you pop the pillar you'll see what needs to be done.

Yep, just did this for dash speaker replacement. There's no airbag sensor in there that would set the bag off. There is the bag itself - just don't poke a hole in it. I get your trepidation - I am not fond of yanking off any panels. Here the two gotchas I found:
  1. When you pop the panel off the two clips, it takes a lot of force. When one of mine let go, I pulled it too far and broke the microphone because it reached the end of the cord and got pulled apart. The good news is that they are very cheap ($23 at the dealer, or less elsewhere). But try not to pull the panel more than 2-3 inches away when it pops loose.
  2. The clip to release the bungee cord is not that easy to open. You have to pry down the barbed end, toward the panel, while you slide the panel forward or the clip backward. See pic below.

Fyi.. the piece that I thought was a air bag sensor was actually the blue tooth microphone. Pop right out

Hi All,
Does anyone have any links to videos or pics to remove the pillar piece and/or install one of the pillar gauge pods? If so, can you share the links/pics? It looks like I'm gonna need it..

Thanks in advance...

Honestly, it's just start pulling. You are not going to interfere with that airbag. There is a bungie cord you will have to remove once you get the pillar loosened up. This cord keeps the pillar from going through your face if the airbag does deploy. I have had mine off several times to run wiring for gauges.

Thanks parbreak.

So, just pull it straight towards the passenger side? No special tools needed?

I think I used a trim tool just to get under the edges, but nothing special needed. You'll feel the body clips start to loosen as you pull.
