Problem with LED taillights
I just spent $40 on LED taillights bulbs and put them in. They work, I checked them with the turn signal on and they blink as intended. BUT... the dashboard tells me to check both right and left turn signals and they blink rapidly, like when an incandescent bulb goes out. I verified that I got the right kind, 3157. Are LED taillight bulbs not compatible with the Camaro?

I was interested in putting LED bulbs in my '13 too, so I sent an inquiry to Diode Dynamics (they're a member on this site too). I asked if a resistor is needed with the standard electrical circuit on these cars and they said "Yes, external resistor is required.".
They have these inline resistors that attach to each bulb lead wire and clamp on. That takes care of the fast blink issue. I didn't end up getting the bulbs (yet), but I still might. Hope that helps! |

Thanks for the reply! I'll look online for the inline resistors and see if I can make it work. If not then I'll just go back to incandescents.

I know you do not need resistors for LED side markers.
But for the tails, I am curious of the best solution as I would like some LED bulbs back there as well.

L.E.D bulbs draw less current than incandescent bulbs, so the car doesn't sense the power drain and assumes the bulb is dead.. an in line resistor will add the draw that the car is looking for and no fast blink or light saying check bulbs.
I got a couple packs of resistors off Amazon for cheap..

Not to hijack but I have a brand new harness set that have resistors built-in that will work for 10-13 models. Accidentally bought them instead of the 14-15. These plug between the bulb and the OEM wiring harness so you won't have to splice in the resistor or use the wire tap device.

just to add more information, the resistors will get really hot. Make sure you set them somewhere where it wont be close to anything that can melt

Will need resistors due to the low load of leds for the tail lights, it appears as a burned out bulb. They are not inline resistors, they need to parallel the led bulb. If they were inline, the circuit would draw even less current. If you don't want to splice into the factory wires, you can buy a trailer harness kit that T's into the circuit. You then splice into the harness wires. Iirc, you only need to add them to the brake/turn, not the parking lights of the circuit. Be certain there is enough brightness difference when having the tail lights on and then using the turn or brake lights. The cheap leds I first bought had almost no contrast. Brake and turn looked fine without the tail lights on, but could barely see the brake/turn with parking lights on.

You would think if a company created these for a specific model, they'd come with the resistor already attached as they KNOW it won't properly work without it. Company should be held liable. If its not plug and play, I wouldn't want it. Shouldn't have to "make" a product work. It should just work...

not trying to hijack but I bought the hero tailights and now have a buzzing sound through radio. Would one of these resistors work and if so anyone know which to get. Its driving me nutz.
