XM Radio works after trial period

Is there a grace period or something? My XM trial is done over a week ago but the stations are still working? Anyone else had this be the case?

Did they ask for a credit or debt card number when you signed up? I've heard XM is notorious for charging for using it after their trials run out unless you specifically call them and cancel the trial.

For me there was a bit of a grace period where they try to contact you to sign up. I kept getting phone calls from an 1-877 number that I didnt' recognize. Turned out it was XM offering me a deal.

Yes, i remember getting a little over 3 months on my last car but then eventually all you'll be able to get is the "preview" channel and the "potus" channel. At least that's what happened in my case.

Just a heads up to anyone renewing. I called xm yesterday to see what they are offering and salesperson goes through his spiel. 12.95/month, 142.45/year 349.00/3 year. I asked about zwinback offer @ 77.00/year after hearing about it on this forum and they say sure, no problem. I than asked if they had a lifetime offer and was quoted 399.99 plus royalty fees and sales tax. They even spread the lifetime offer over 5 payments which comes out to about 90.00/month. I plan on keeping this car for a while so I went lifetime. 50.00 more over a 3 year plan made it a no brainer in my case.

Is XM worth it?

I don't know about you guys but XM sounds like crap too me. It sounds tinny, maybe too much compression.

MIne lasted for another month, then half of them owrked for about a week, now they are all dead. It seemed to me that they send out a signal at random times to disable the channels and not just one big signal that disables all of them at once..

If I were you, instead of considering spending $500 on music stations that barely play anything better than what you get on FM.. Buy yourself some CD's of music you like and you'll have plenty of music to listen to while driving. If you don't want to change around CD's, then buy yourself an ipod and hook it up to the aux port. Still better to buy 300 songs you actually like for 99 cents each and copy your existing music collection to put in the ipod. I liked a few stations on XM however I don't miss them at all now that they are gone..

And yes, XM does not have very good fidelity or clarity because it is highly compressed music. Your basic 128KBPS Mp3 will sound better than anything XM can throw at it. A CD will sound superior ofcourse and those enhanced CD's that they sell now will sound even better and give you the titles of the songs on them while playing.

Best of Sirius basically offers a package of Sirius-based channels not normally carried on the XM lineup. It includes the Howard Stern channels, the NFL channel (which includes other channels that do game day broadcasts of every game), Nascar channel, and some other ones that don't tend to be as strong a draw.

Personally, I think it boils down to Stern fans and sports fans. Four bucks a month really isn't a lot, but it's obviously all about what you're getting out of it. If you don't/wouldn't listen to those extra channels regularly, there's not much of a point.

I had Sirius in my previous vehicle, and not having the option of listening to Stern and the NFL Channel on a regular basis is kind of making me nuts. For my wife's sake, I'm trying to put up with it at least during the trial. As soon as I need to subscribe, though, I'm going to be subscribing to everything.

I know it's not for everyone, but IMO the problems satellite radio solves are worth the cost. Hell, some folks can't live without spending nearly 5 bucks on a cup of coffee in the morning, spending $4 a week on drive-time entertainment is no big deal by comparison.
