My 1LE Autocross Win

So after starting off the year undefeated in Novice class in both Raw and PAX times, I stepped up to A-Street for 1 event since my "Rookie Class" didn't start until the next event. Stepping into A-Street was certainly a learning experience and although I had a bad day, I wasn't going to do much better than 3rd even with a few extra runs. At that particular event I was out Raw timed by a 2015 GTI in G-Street so his PAX was MILES faster than mine. He is one of my main competitors in Rookie Class now, so coming into our 2 day event this past weekend I felt like even my best performance was going to fall short of his PAX. So on Saturday after a final run downed cone in my path, I was granted a re-run and I pulled off a 1.5 second improvement over my fastest run! That jumped my PAX time to a full second ahead of the GTI when I had been trailing him all day! That sent me into Sunday with a comfortable lead, but I still felt like I pulled off something that I may not be able to duplicate and assumed he had a bad day. After some good tips from a very fast driver in a C7 Grand Sport. I laid down my best time of the day on my second run and I wasn't able to improve it for the last 2 runs. All in all it was a great time and I brought home the win and I was very pleased with my overall PAX for a guy who only started autoXing 5 month ago!

Below are the results, but for reference this GTI ran a 57.790 and I ran a 58.641 at the previous event. Granted I improved to a 57.010 during fun runs but that still wouldn't have beaten his PAX, so I would have lost to him if we had started Rookie class then.

BTW I will update this thread with my PDR footage when I have time to upload it.

Trying too. I will say my track alignment helped a ton mostly because my rear toe was moderately out of whack. I recommend everyone get theirs checked if they haven't already!

Did you get a strut brace on your 1LE?

Look out we got a badass over here!!!! haha Good job Mike, I was keeping up with the live timing both days and was thoroughly impressed with your times! You would have been much more competitive in AS this weekend than last event so that's very promising! I'm hoping to be able to crack the podium in AS on Sunday but the top 3 from last event are fast as hell and 2 of them are C6 Z06's so we will see how it goes haha

It is an option that's why I am asking. Wonder how it works and if it causes you to change a class. I would think as a factory option it should be considered stock.

According to the Camaro engineers the added stiffness it would provide on the 1LE is not worth the added weight up high, that's why it's not included in the package. So unless you want it just to pretty up you engine bay I wouldn't bother with it.

Coming from a Structural Design Engineer some times bracing becomes unnecessary. It is either too little of an increase in rigidity or has no effect at all because the existing structure is already rigid enough or it is negated by the extra weight it is adding to the overall structure. Also it can become very ineffective cost wise. My reasoning for not having it is simply that I'm not an automotive engineer, and they didn't seem to spare any expenses when it came to performance and handling on the SS 1LE, so if they decided it wasn't necessary on the car then I would agree. Even if its not much weight its still something.

Trust me when I say no one who is pushing this car to 10/10ths will ever complain of chassis flex. This car is very well sorted out. Its amazing seeing how the car is actually slightly leaned over in action shots as the car feels flat while driving!

Also its worth noting the Almighty ZL1 1LE also doesn't come with a strut tower brace as standard.

LOL! Thanks! Yep the I was pretty competitive with the new alignment, but there was still a few ringers out there in some well prepped Vettes that I wouldn't have been able to beat!

LOL, I have a 17' GTI and it really is a great little car, but I have been wanting something with a little more oomph so I was looking at a Vette. They happened to have a 1LE on the lot and was checking that out today, but I was thinking the 1LE should be able to club my GTI, probably on a longer track though.

Yep the PAX time helps even out uneven cars. That's what made them such competition for me even though I beat him by 2.5 and 3 seconds on track.

Here are the videos. I also edited the original post to have them.
