E85 Lesson needed

Finally found a station that sells ethanol near me ,the pump read flex fuel 51%-83% is this what everyone is using or is there a specific E85 pump? How would you ever be consistent at the drag strip if one time you have a certain percentage next time another?

It varies location to location. Both pumps near me are consistently 70-80%. It varies seasonally, I don't think you'll run into a situation where it pumps 70% 1 week and 51% another week.

Also if you have the flex fuel kit installed (and of course, a proper tune) the % content can vary and the ECU will compensate.

That is the correct pump. I have not seen a pump lower than 78% in NC and FL. The northern states may be lower in the winter due to cold start issues (this the change to 51% as the minimum).

The scan tool (HP Tuners or nGauge) will report the ethanol percentage. The Flex Fuel sensor allows the ECM to know what the percentage is in real-time.

I can't really give a HP vs percentage relationship as I have not tested this.

So its correct to say the flex fuel kit horsepower gains are going to vary depending on the ethanol percentage, What are the numbers on the average hp gains most people are seeing ? Also is it correct that I could install the kit and not tune until I finish my other boltons.just so I dont use ethanol until it's tuned

Poor mans method I used testing a few stations in the area. This came out of a pump at a station about 20 mins from me. The station thats a mile away tested at 70.

For race days, you could also order some higher percentage fuel and fill up in your driveway. At least that's what my friends do. I just run whatever I get from RaceTrac next to my house. I'm not that serious about setting records and love the fact that my nearly stock car runs strong 11's at the track.

I haven't been able to get passed 59% on my first two fill ups here in Dallas Tx. I'm told there's a Krogers in Irving that's consistently in the very high 70's to sometimes 80% so I'm heading over there shortly. I'm an e85 addict plain and simple. The smell, the hp.... I can't go back to 93. I have it in there now and I hate it. It just doesn't have the same gitty-up as the Ewhatever. I will fill up on my way to drop it off for a few torque converter warranty issues...

I use the Kroger at Coit & 121. It's been consistently 75% for me the last month or so (4 fillups). I've seen it as high as 82% in the past.

If it's advertised as E85, by law it's supposed to be at least 70%.

Also, if you're in the process of switching from E10 or gas, run it to almost empty. Put about 5-10 gals of E85 in. Run it to almost empty, like on fumes. Then fill up. You should be right near what the pump is actually spitting out.

I filled up in Irving (19.88 gals), drove it for awhile and came home. I plugged the HPTuners up to ck the content and it is sitting @ 69%. 10% more than the previous. Because I was able to squeeze nearly 20 gals in, I had to be nearly empty. I will try the Krogers on Coit next if I'm able to come up your way. Thx for the info!
