Power Stop Track Pad Review

I wanted to share my opinion on the "newish" Power Stop Front track pads (PST-1001) .
Just came back from a 2 days HPDE at Summit Point. This track takes a high toll on brakes (decelerating from 140 mph to 40 and more). I'm an intermediate driver that uses brakes aggressively and have my braking point as late as safely possible.

The bite on these pads is really good (MUCH better than stock) from cold, and clearly gets better when they get hot. I daily drove them for 2 weeks in 30F weather with no problems (except moderate sequel).

On the track the pads performed pretty good and showed signs of fading towards the end of every session, similar to what I was experiencing with Carbotech XP10 .

Overall these pads really remind me the XP10 for HALF(maybe...) the price!
I would say, that the life of the pads is shorter than the XP10 . After 2 days( 8 X 20 minutes) I have about 5-6 mm left) . Carbotech XP10 lasted 4-5 days BUT I'm driving faster these days

My last reference is Carbotech XP12 from my last event (Oct 2016) . XP12 had a slightly better bite than XP10/Powerstop and NO fade at all on the same track (similar lap times to the past weekend). However after 2 days on the track with the XP12 they were down to maybe 3 mm AKA gone.

Just ordered another set of Powerstop

Fresh Motul 600 with new Stainless Steel brake lines. It was not a fluid fade (spongy pedal) it was a pad fade.

Interesting. I'll have to give these a shot once I'm through my XP10s up front!

Good input. We need more 1st hand experiences for consideration. Every bit helps. Braking is so relative to driver use that the first thing I keyed in on was your experience and tendencies. Very cool that you shared.

I smoked my OEM pads this weekend on the ZL1 and looking into options which, is not expansive at the moment.

Care to share the details on how you did that?

It sounds like it's not very uncommon to see people have fade issues with Carbotech pads. The pad life was also terrible in my experience also. I've also mentioned the same thing very recently but some people say they're happy with them, oh well

Did you ever consider using ST43, I've had a couple events with them so far and they never let me down. They were also not aggressive for the OEM 1LE tires which was not the case with previous OEM tires that came with my previous cars and with the Trofeo R the braking is even better Never heard or tried those pads (power stop) but people seem to be generally happy with PFC, Raybestos and or Hawk DTC 60/70 series pads

I think the pads you've mentioned are the top tier race pads. Carbotech and Powerstop are in my opinion 2nd tier. However, they cost way less money and good fit for beginner / intermediate HPDE drivers.

Just curious, why don't you ever mark the start/finish line for lap time with PDR?

Solid question. I do. For whatever reason, it is not picking it up. The one time it did, It put all my laps together in one timing mess. When the prompt comes up to mark finish line, I hit it every time. Must be doing something wrong. I'm never too concerned with it though as I use a transponder PLUS I run Harry's throughout the day. It would be nice to have the time display though.

They typically cost less than those Carbotechs so the cost in the long run will be a lot higher also

They're the longest lasting and most consistent pads I've had in all my cars, I've also had no issues driving them on the street except the C6 Corvette with its padlet design, that thing was way too noisy. I am currently using on my 1LE on both track and street and as expected so far so good I will replace them with OEM pads when the track season is over
