Thinking about making the P1SC a bit peppier

So after some research I'm thinking about making a bit more TQ.

Idea is getting a 3.85" pulley and a 44mm wastegate.

While overall Boost will be regulated by the wastegate, it should make more TQ down low due to the faster impeller speeds. Should make it pull like a PD blower, without the IAT rise, therefore making it even more fun on the street.

Any downfalls to these thoughts?

I have heard of people doing this. I read a few articles about it as well. I believe East Coast Supercharging used to offer corvette kits with a similar option. I have been thinking about doing this with a larger head unit like an F1 with the intent of limiting the boost like a turbo while we all wait for more viable options in the fuel department. (and cash)

I'm going to try a JMS bap and ZL 1 in tank. For 2 more psi of boost. Leaving the high side...

Downfall is that the article is 5 years old done on 2010 Camaros with LS-series Engines with different D-series unit.

The theory is sound though. I could even run a 3.5" pulley and a wastegate to keep it at 8 psi. With the smaller pulley you'll get to that 8 psi number quicker since it's spinning the impeller faster. The biggest issue is making sure you have a quality/large enough gate that won't let boost creep high enough to run lean and break parts. Not to mention with a meth kit you can run a boost controller and have additional cfm up top on demand.

Never heard of that before. That seems like a great idea.

I think the best part about that is that you could likely use an electronic boost controller and actually have gear dependant boost.

You could also likely tune the boost via rpm. Basically you could take a pen and draw on a piece of paper the torque curve you wanted. No reason you couldn't take your favorite car engine and just match the torque curve. With a supercharger I feel like you have more flexibility than a turbo in that regard since you are not at the mercy of exhaust back pressure to spin your turbo.

I know that for me one of the biggest benefits is I can have fuel dependent boot levels. But I also agree that gear dependent boost would be great especial with the first and second gear of the A8.

This topic seesm to come up EVERY time we hit a new market.

First it was the mustang guys from 2001-2004
Then it was the Vette guys for a while
Recently it was the 2015 Mustang guys

I will say this... while it makes for "neat" dyno graphs.
(you know the ones where people say "look how much TQ it makes down low")

VERY FEW people actually end up keeping the system on.
Most realize it doesn't really add much ET at the track, and scrap the idea.

I am not being a hater by any means... but literally EVERY single person I know that has done it, just went back to a normal system with no gate.

wastegate on the boost side, proper spring, crank up the boost on your head unit, ??, powaaa.

This is a project I might tackle when I have more time to burn. Possibly this summer.
