Brake noise?

Noticed my brakes are squeaking only about 800 miles on car, is it just new pads? or do they need any adjusting? thanks!

large, high performance brake often require a bedding process....

go find a deserted country road with no traffic or bears.....

hit 50-60 mph... then do a 90% effort stop without triggering ABS....

do this about 5-6 times... then drive for a while to cool brakes...

your brakes are now bedded.

If you are going to track the car, I would recommend you get them VERY hot during this process.......They will last much longer and you won't suffer from the "warped" rotor pad deposits.

You bet.

When you're done, report back if you could. I'm curious for your thoughts...I've noticed the brakes bite a bit harder when you first press the pedal after this process, and as mentioned earlier - lasted longer on the track.

Could easily be bedding them correctly but I have also heard from my salesman that a bulletin was released about squeaky breaks for the SS 1LE package. Long story short, it may not be you Chaos, it could be something GM is aware of and may release something to combat it.

How can you tell if the brakes have been burnished? I bought mine used and the squeal is down right embarrassing. I find myself downshifting and only using the brakes when I absolutely need to then i pump them because the damn squeal. pads are fine....lots of meat left. Will doing this procedure help?

You will definitely see a color change to the rotor in the pad sweep area. A bright and shiny rotor is not burnished. You will also smell when they are burnished if done correctly. Once you smell the burn, they are just about done. Once hot, very important to cool down the rotors without using the brakes or parking the vehicle.

On the other hand, thinking a new service where anybody can send me their front rotors with return shipping prepaid and I will gladly burnish them at the next track event FOC. Also willing to exchange a new set of quiet low dust ceramic pads for those crusty, dusty OE pads. Guaranteed no squeal deal......
