Pretty large waves in 1/4 panel near rear window (can you check yours?)

The drivers side 1/4 is much worse than the passenger side. There are some pretty large ripples in the sheet metal near where the 1/4 panel meet the rear window right above the deck lid. I'll add some photos but it may be a bit tough to see in photos. You can feel them more when you run your hand over them. In this photo, you can see the ripple where the reflection of the trees have a break in them and the black looks a shade darker. The photo was taken looking back from the drivers door towards the deck lid.

In this photo you can see the waves in the ruler reflection (between the 3 and 4 is the largest)this is taken from the back of the car looking forward.

This one is in brighter light looking from the drivers door back. You can see 2 darker areas going from side to side. These are ripples. If you're having trouble placing the area, you can see in the background the decklid spoiler and the white rally stripes for reference.

One last photo from a little further away for reference . The darker lines on the 1/4 just above the deck lid are the waves. This is the same photo as the last one but just a little further back. All of the thin white lines higher on the 1/4 are just artifacts in the photo and not waves

Yes but just noticed it when I was washing it last week. It was purchased new and has not been in any accidents.

That you know of. Cars get damaged on truck carriers all the time.

The ****ed up thing is that you would have to let the monkeys in the dealer's bodyshop, uh, "repair" that for you under the warranty.

It doesn't look like repaired body damage to me. It looks like a wave in the sheet metal from when it was welded onto the vehicle.

Can anyone else run their hand over that area and let me know if they feel any sorts of waves even if they can't be seen in their color?

Each shot looked like a distortion along the curve of the sheet metal. Combine that with paint on that panel only being sprayed from a single direction (sprayer doesn't follow the surface contour - hence the drip tips in the corners of the trunk lids that people have been scratching/chipping) and I don't really see anything out of the ordinary.

It's not the paint and it's not the natural curvature. The LT quarter panel is much more pronounced in that area to feel than the RT is. There's just a lot of artifacts in the photos. You can feel the wave when you run your hand over it. Part of my job is quality assurance for auto body repair so I am very well versed in being able to see and feel imperfections in paint and body work and this is not typical. I'm going to go by a dealer and feel a couple others to see if they feel like it. I'll likely not have anything done about it because I don't want the factory paint broken if I can help it but I would like to know if it is a common problem. Thanks.

There is no way that is "normal" outside of say, a crushed pepsi can.

On the GEN5 there was a single stamping for the sheet metal that ran from the back bumper cover along the back window edge/side of car up to the front fender past the windshield pillar. Done at the Canada plant on special presses. Chevy made a big deal out of that being the largest length stamping on their cars (think it is 10 feet) and could only be done due to that special equipment. Purpose was to make hip area very pronounced without seams.

Maybe the wave or dimples some have is from a slight distortion in the panel caused by not always being stamped perfectly along the entire length at the Gen6 factory?
