2.0t autocross info?
I've tried finding this information myself, but have had no luck... Does anyone know what class the 2.0 turbo will be lumped into for 2017? I doubt I'll get to compete next year, I'll focus on driver classes and ride alongs (newbie here)... But regardless was still curious...
On a side note I've been looking into helmets for the fiance and myself, there's alot of options out there... Would appreciate any advice in selecting one keeping in mind: we'd like to autocross, road race and drag race, we're beginners so we don't need anything extreme and I'd like to keep price around $500-700 a piece... Was looking at this guy: Carbon Devil ray, about $600 |

Thanks in advance guys! I'm a total newbie to this, but our Camaro was bought with this in mind; any info regarding the 2.0 in an autocross situation would be greatly appreciated!

It will be D Street. I run one as well.
That's a pretty spendy helmet. |

I'm not sure of particular drag racing or road racing standards, but look for a Snell A-rated helmet (you'll need an SA 2010 or SA 2015). I've used mine for HPDE, autocross, etc. but not for drag or wheel-to-wheel. Should be $300 or less for an HJC or Pyrotect if you look around.

Thanks again, I appreciate the input and will look into those companies as well... Now that I know what class the car will run in I can look at rules and regs.

I buy through Safe Racer as well. Don't buy an expensive helmet sight unseen. If possible go to a store that has them.
If not, buy a cheaper one first and upgrade later. You really just need to pay attention to the Snell ratings and at a minimum get one that is SA2010 but preferably SA2015.

I have a snell2010 that I got on amazon for $99.
Also like previously mentioned it will land in D street. You'll see Mark Scroggs out there in his, if you run into him make sure to pick his brain.

Unfortunately, I might not run into you guys as I plan on trying my luck up here in Canada first (Ottawa valley/ Toronto area).I'm hoping to take some instructional classes at Calabogie Motorsports Park, it's only about 40min. from me. I believe the classing up here is a bit different, but they're planning on adopting the American class system? It's been a challenge to find current information as I'm not sure where to look... |

I'm going out on a limb and guessing an SA2015 would be 'legal' untill 2025? Or I'm I way off on that and it means something else entirely?

My advice would be to get a closed-face Snell SA 2015 helmet. There are enought SA 2015's out there right now to find a deal. There is nothing wrong with a SA 2010 if you can find one you like - just a 2015 will be eligible for longer. But get a full-face (or "closed-face"). It will give you the most flexibility as you can use it for autocross, drag racing, karting, track days and road racing (so, everything).

FYI - There is a trade show called "PRI" (Performance Racing Industry) in Indianapolis during early December. All of the helmet manufacturers will be there (along with most other aftermarket manufacturers for car racing) with their helmets on hand to try out. Might be a good opportunity to do some scouting on a helmet.
