Exclamation How to Track Orders with OnStar - Post Updates Please!

How to track via OnStar

1) Have your dealer turn OnStar on.
- You will need to provide them with your Name, Email, Phone#
2) You will get an e-mail from OnStar to verify your account and go through some setup setps
3) Track your vehicle using the Phone App location service
3a) or you can pay 3.99 for Family Link to track via your PC.

Here's my current info:

1344 olds avenue" Parking lot outside of plant"
4300 status intermediate delivery autoport limited
4 miles on odometer. Gas is low. I have and will not mess with any of the other features so they don't think my car needs any extra qc check because its starting by itself. but my tire pressure is 33psi if anyone cares.

Does not show any past history. Only thing is I have been believing my car has been at autoport limited which is about 10 miles from the plant when the car is actually in one of the outlying parking lots surrounding the plant.

Why are so many cars just sitting in the plant lot for weeks at a time?

I'm gonna guess part of the reason is that they just quit making the '15s...Those have to be transported somewhere, as well....No point in loading up the lots at the dealership with both Gens. Give the '15s some time to thin out. And (another guess) shipping is probably at a premium this time of year. It's just gotta play out for a little while longer....

Other than possibly freeing up some rail autoracks, I do not think the 2015 build out has had any effect, in part because GM knew the date the 2015 would end long before it started 2016 production. 2016 Builds are being shipped, but very few from the October run.

Do they prioritize sold units first for shipping

Chevy does not build on speculation, so everything it builds is sold.

But to answer the intent of your question, no. SRE (Retail Customer) orders are not prioritized for any reason unless the buyer has won the for charity auction.

Because this is about the ordering process, there is an exception about building an unsold order: Fisher Body built a Corvair body for which no dealer assignment has been found.

Your dealer has to set you up an account. Some are cool with doing this, some are not. I purchased my 16 camaro already, thats why i have an account.

Google track corvette with onstar and there is an long write up on how to set this up before buying the car on some stingray forum.

In another thread it was mentioned that the logistics follows a "LIFO" strategy...which could explain why some early builds are taking so long...

My dealer has ignored 2 of my emails so far on setting up my OnStar. I copied and sent him the exact directions. He doesn't know it yet but I will NOT be recommending him after I get my car.

I studied business. I'm struggling to see how this is an effective strategy for completed goods.

Is there no methodology in place to properly pull cars off the line and have them most effectively placed for shipping. "First in first out"!

LIFO. Some car could get stuck in the corner for a year before finally finding its way out of the lot..... Would Chevy see this? Is zack46's car sitting in a back corner?

My guess is that there is no type of method. Just build, inspect, then ship as they come. FIFO would be best from a consumer standpoint. However, GM most likely does not deal with a high volume of custom ordered camaros. Granted there is a ton of people on this forum that ordered a vehicle, but that might only account for 3% of there total sales.

Builds are parked in groups indicative of destination as they come off the line and gradually the areas between the groups are filled in but none are blocked in. What happens when there is a major extended qc hold (notice Chevy carefully words responses to confuse regular ramp up qc with extended hold during ramp as builds are moved to other holding areas not in order of destination; the new holding area becomes the destination. There you will have a LIFO like situation.

This happened with the new Stingray ramp up where a few thousand initial builds were sent o Nashville. To my knowledge Chevy has never said what caused this action and in my memory I do not recall Chevy admitting the move was for a quality issue.
