Never good to "over" rev an unloaded engine. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone does it anyway. Up to 2500 or so is ok I guess, if that's what floats one's boat.

Do what you want...it's your car...your money

Just don't bitch when you engine goes pop.

Revving in neutral without any load on the engine is a big no no.

The rpm redline is designed for engine under load or in gear for those who need the definition.

From the factory your car should not go over 3200 RPM in park or neutral. Assuming you have an automatic since your title says reving in park. If thats the case you can't hurt it..

Manuals aren't limited in neutral.

Manuals don't have park.... As per the title. And in my post I mentioned automatics.

+1. An engine under load sounds so much better than in N.

People have been reving cars in ...neutral and park for decades. There's nothing wrong with giving it a shot of throttle. Just use your common sense. It's not something you should be doing everyday.

A modern engine can take a lot of free revving without hurting it, as long as it's at operating temperature.....but whats the point you are just making noise, wasting fuel, and loading up your engine.

If you want to "clean it out" per se, then hold it steady at 2000 rpm or so for a few seconds.

Remember the cash for clunkers program? A lot of you tube videos of them blowing up those vehicles. Usually they would stay running at no load full throttle until they overheated and shut down.
