Tire load rating question

Hello to all. I want to give the Hankook evo 2s a try but I need to find out if I would be alright running a 275/30/21 on the rears. I have the factory 21s 8.5/9.5. The thing is that the guy at a tire store, that will remain anonymous, told me that the load rating is too low. First he tried to tell me that it would not fit my rim but then I told him it is specifically for 9 to 10" rims. He said oh and then started talking about the load rating. The thing about that is that he tells me factory front is rated at 100 and rears are 103. I then asked him why it was ok for him to put a 96 on the front but it was not ok for him to put a 98 on the back. So I thought I would ask here because I really feel he is just trying to up sale me. Also sorry if something like this has already been posted. I am on break at work and didn't have time to go through all of the search results.

When in doubt check out Tirerack.com

I don't see a reference to load rating as you noted. The Hankook Ventus Evo2's listed at TireRack are list as:
  • Size: 275/30ZR21 98Y XL
SL = standard load XL = Extreme load

I had the same problem when I brought in my standard 285/45 9's and 10's. I changed them all around to Pirelli P Zeros's to a 285/35 10's and Discount Tire told me that they could not mount them because of the liability load problem. So I had them mounted at a private shop. they told me to keep them at 40 PSI.

XL = Extra Load.

Let me know if I can help with any further clarifications.
