Confused on wheel/tire choice for track days

With so much info one can be totally confused on the correct answer. i want a square setup for track days that will fit Michelin pilot tires in either a 20" or 19" size. I need as wide as I can get without rubbing for the track Would a ZL1 setup work?

Just from what i have been reading and if your truely tracking your vehicle and nothing else with it, a lot seem to run 19x10/11 rims with 305 tires all way around. so the ZL1 setup would not be the best setup. Also the michelin pss tires are not the best for just tracking either. I heard they get greasy and slippery after a few hot laps on them. This is just from what i have been reading. I believe nitto nt05 or somethign like that is what i have read is highly recommended. There are plenty on this forum that seem to know quiet a bit and hopefully chime in for you.

I use Nitto NT01 285/35/20 on my 1le wheels at all four corners for the track. I have a set of standard SS wheels with Michelin PS2 tires that I picked up on Craigslist to get back and forth to the track. I really like Michelin tires and use them on all the family vehicles but I don't have the money for Cup tires right now. When the budget allows me I will run
Michelin Cup with a set of HRE wheels.

They will be mainly be used for the track but also for the summer. So I don't need gumball tires. From my local go fast shop they recommended 19 X 9 1/2 wheels with the Michelin tires.

For the price I've considered using BFG Radial for both street and track. My grandfather in law is a retired BFG engineer. His paycheck is from Michelin company and I make fun of him for it. Ultimately I think tire choice is all about what the individual driver is going to do with his car the majority of the time.

I agree with Abdi. Its mainly up to you on tire preference. I'm just kind of going off what I have read from the track guys. They said the michelin pss tires were better for autocross, but actual tracks they werent that great after few hot laps. I think 19x9.5 or 10 would be the way to go. I think anythign from 285-305 is the way you wanna go for tire sizes.
